The friend who gave him the wood could get in serious trouble. The product was supposed to be destroyed since they would have been indemnified. If the insurance company found out it was repurposed, they could claim insurance fraud since it was deemed ruined and a claim was paid on it. You can't have it both ways, i.e. claiming total loss and then having something of value.
You're right, Firewood Bandit. Just dreaming out loud... Now that that is put to bed, let's see it burn, Greg!
Well, some good points made here, so will answer what questions I can: 1. I was asked not to sell them, and i promised i would not. I did ask if i could give them away to friends, and as long as i could be sure those friends weren't selling them, and was told i could. So the few wood workers i have given them to have been long time friends, and I know they won't risk my word by selling them or what they make. 2. Damage to the board varies greatly. Am guessing water infiltrated part of the container, but not all. Some of the plastic bag wrappers have condensation on the inside, and a small percentage of them I could break in half by hand. Others seem to have no damage at all. 3. I have been burning the ones that came loose, without a box, as i think they must be the ones that they first discovered were bad. But if it comes to burning whatever remains, they will go into my OSB box and all without opening them. Box has no staples. Big box weighs 33 pounds and has four boards, smaller box weighs 12 pounds and has four smaller boards. 4. The friends that helped transport them (driving the 5 trucks and 3 trailers for three trips) took some to use themselves. They were all going to clorox them thoroughly to take care of any mold issues. 5. I live in a log home, but have no need of any wood flooring or panelling in out buildings, but i am thinking of options. A friend of mine suggested a mile path of boards and other crazy ideas, but these say on them not to expose to water/dishwasher for any length of time, think they would breakdown outside pretty quick. The side story is good for wood hoarders reading. The original owner is a nearby neighbor, he called me ten years ago with some down trees. When i got there they were all pine, but my sons and I took them anyway to help him out, and i could burn in my OSB. Then years later, my sons would work in his warehouse helping load and unload trucks. Then several more years later, i get the call. Helping people out with wood issues sometimes comes back around and everyone wins.
Since it was night, here are some pics i took with better light so the scale/color can be better seen. They are on an older ash stump for contrast, and thats some cherry behind them. The plastic bag showing the moisture inside is what appears to be wrong with some of them.
Good lookin wood- pretty for no value added projects and for burning- are they treated with a finish Greg?
Though one downer would be the little rubber foot on each corner. They pop off with a putty knife but every single one has four of them.
Ahhhh, your OWB won't mind... I take that back- some robot here might work for the Eager Problem Atmospheric shmucks!
There ya go again, teasing us with those pics of that wood just dying for something else to happen to it. Save for the santa swap/trade meet coming back to FHC this Nov!
Man someone could laminate them puppies together with some substrate and make a new dining room table top that would be pretty, if I did that I sure the heck would not sell it
Those look really pretty. I'd love to have a few , apply a clear epoxy coating and use 'em for gun work. Nice score- I think....
