Change over from studded tires to summer tires today. Did daughter's, wife's & my P/U. All on rims With my luck: Almost for sure, some winter weather will come back for a visit now.
2 months to go for me. I'll swap the wife's tires out to all- seasons, but I run the winter tires year round. I get those late spring/early summer mega rain/sleet/snow blasts that can have traffic crawling. Not me. I like the softness and extra voids a good snow tire provides.
Ak rules: "The law, which prohibits studded tires from May 1 to Sept. 15, is meant to prevent damage to roads." We have groves in the pavement from studs, but the safety of studs saves accidents. "Trade offs" No studs, All season tires are the way to go most winters. But most here use studs.
Chained up semi-trucks do more damage to the roads than my little tire studs ever will. That's a simple truth.
I remember before studded tires were outlawed in Michigan. Even then, I remember all the "citidiots" spinning there tires like there was no tomorrow at the intersections when they were pulling away! Some people just can't grasp that driving in the winter is different than driving in the summer....How would you like to be behind that person when one or two of those studs lets loose?
No studded in Mass anymore. I remember back in the 70's and early 80's we had them but all I see now is passers by coming through from out of state.
You should see the damage from the studded/carbide-ed snowmobiles wherever they cross/drive on the highways around here! Looks like glacial striations!
My car has them , truck doesnt. April 15 is off time for us. This year they will NOT come off till May. Weve had snow every other day here the last week between melt offs.
This winter. with not much snow. The studs wore down and cut grooves in the well traveled Glenn Hwy from Anch. to the Mat Valley. Drive the road now & if your tire width don't match the grove, it moves you all over the place. If your tires fit well in the grove, auto pilot
