OK hoarders, my big saw, jonsered, 1990 got borrowed and not returned... we discussed it and it got heated but bottom line is I'm not going to jail for 25 year old saw and cops won't do anything about it.. I pay them and they won't do their job. This is not all officer's, but the 1 I complained too. like most professions 20% of people do 80% of work. I have no idea what others do!

I have a stihl 260 pro. this is my small saw I use for anything less than 20 inches. a 16 and 20 bar.
since I know we like pics 20150331_175417.jpg
I have a husky 455 rancher new in box bought from bozo above father in a 2 saw deal with another new smaller one I gave to a friend in Indiana that needed a saw for safety. for 300 for both. I like deals like that

so here's question, can I put a 28 inch bar on husky or should I buy a bigger saw? or can I get by for this year. my niece works at a equipment dealer Kubota and stihl etc and I can get a stihl ms 461 with a 28 inch bar for little less than 900 all in with after the 100 off they offered. because I got a few of these ash laying around (like 8) cut 2 years ago and put on stumps to wait. 20150331_175640.jpg
this one is about 44 inches at but and 12 feet long.

budget for this year's toys is going for a new Woodstock IS. a quick release attachment for Kubota and a set of forks so that I can build the pallets with hog fence and wrap them like uncle auggie suggests I can do new saw also but would rather wait til next year if I can do it and not kill saws.

If I can do a big bar on husky I know they stop at 20 recommend could I do a 24 or just bite bullet and buy a big one?

I think youre going to have to borrow a bigger saw... Good thing though, Usually a Good big saw like that comes with an operator. Most wont lend out a saw like that so they go and do it ;) Couple Beers when you are done and Viola, Wood is Bucked :)

    I don't see a 455 pulling a 28" bar nevermind oiling it.

Let me start by saying...I don't have a clue. I do have 2 Jonsered 2255's which is supposed to be the 455 Rancher, only red. I think the problem would be with the oiler, with a longer bar. Like my 2255's very much, but would not try a longer bar.

thanks cribbed, I liked Johnny and little pro only 2 I really used the 455 is still plastic over bar and never had fuel or oil in it. I like 2 have at least 2 in case 1 gets stuck. most of my cutting is 5 minutes walk from house so no big deal go get other 1 but I do want/need a bigger than 50cc saw

The Rancher is not enough saw for much bigger than the 20" mine came with. I have an 18" on it and feel that's a good size for it.
The 20" works, but I'd rather have a few more cc's to pull anything bigger.
It also seems a little heavy for the power, which is why I put the smaller b/c on. Still heavy, but better balance. My .02
Willing to trade the 455 for the bigger saw? Might get a few more bucks by selling it outright.

ya know I don't ever sell stuff, I buy it keep it forever let friends borrow it or give it to someone in need. I have a split personality I can either be a complete Azz or a nice guy. I like the nice me better. last thing I sold was a used 15 year old car and I would fix things kid broke on it for almost 6 months. finally too much of a pain so I told him I was done fix in it here's 600 you gave me for it I'll take it back. he left kept car never heard from him again. wife says I need more balance. I gave the one size smaller to a friend who lived in woods and did not have saw. called it a birthday present I guess short of it I try treat people better than expected or I would starve to death as a salesmen.

still got original sales receipt taped to it maybe store credit? what do I trade it for?

Get the 461 or something similar. There's a nice 460 in the FHC classifieds.

A 455 probably isn't going to pull even a skip tooth chain on a 28" bar well IMO.
What kind of low life borrows someones saw and then won't return it? I understand what you are saying about not going to jail but dang I would be flaming mad:mad:

I agree with the above posts, about the 455 Husky will not pull a 28" bar. My FIL has a 455 Husky with an 20" bar with 3/8 chain. My little 450 Husky with an 18" bar and .325 chain will cut right along with that 455 or might even be a touch faster in 16" wood or less. I would sell that saw and recoup some of the money and pick up a larger saw.

That wood in your pic on the ground would love to be bucked up with a Dolmar 7900 and a 28" bar!

Mad, yeah! he got hurt on job site and was out of work I was trying to help him out with day work here and there and he got addicted to pain killers. hell I would have given him money. it was getting pretty physical when cop showed up and said 25 year old saw wasn't worth anything! I pay this guy's salary:mad: yeah just saw one master mind listed. I know he is revered here. I think it might be like grandma getting a Shelby cobra to go to church. I know nothing about saws I was looking at ms 461 cause good tools save time and money. that 260 pro is good saw probably why I never got 455 rancher opened easier take pro. I like the little stihl. I will probably pm mm later. in fact I'll do it now!

OK a Dolmar, is another to check out. I got the logs set up on stumps so they do not rot he borrowed Johnny and I was gonna block them up. I rented another big jonsered, it was not as good as mine.

What would be the max bar size you could run on a Dolmar 6400?

Might be all he needs if he is not into huge wood all the time!
