Left to right: Tulip, Beech, Oak and Black Birch. I've got several more of the tulip, oak and birch rounds to SS whenever I can make more time. This birch was on my hit list, as it was dying and leaning and eventually going to fall over my lane. Decided to take it today so I could extend my stacks under it.
Great day to work outside today, cool and sunny. However, when the sun started to set a nasty cold settled in. Yesterday was similar, except for the freak snow squall.
Perhaps, but I've got the spring fever and I'm outside working my butt off whenever I get a free moment. My work schedule got crazy busy too, so I'll probably have to wait til the GTG in May for a comparo.
I'm curious too, as I've got a few logs worth in my pile. I can assure you that it's basically impossible to hand split while fully green, but once it dries a little it will harden up and split like a champ. It's losing so much weight already I'm not sure it will be much more than a fire starter.
Don't know for sure how it burns. We still haven't even gotten our stove installed yet. Just trying to get ahead on the wood. From what I hear it dries reasonably fast, but burns fast with lowish BTU's. For now, I'll take anything I can get my hands on. I was able to split everything up to about 12" diameter pretty easily by hand, but I haven't gotten to the bigger rounds. I'm waiting to borrow a hydro splitter for the bigger stuff.
Awesome pictures. Looks like deer country? Nice selection of wood types. The poplar dries fast & burns hot & fast, good for "Take the chill off fires" & kindling It's all BTUs

I used to have a ball hunting those with bow and arrow. Worked nice when shooting a recurve and no sights. Very tasty too!
