Never burned LaCretes, so can't comment there. I'm ambivalent on the WP. My CPM wasn't that thrilled with them, and they hung up in the hopper much worse than other pellets. The SCF loved the low ash, but I wasn't blown away by the heat output. The WP were stupid expensive, though, and I think I'll burn equine pellets @ $250/ton before I burn many bags of WP @$320/ton.
Wish I could find some of those Lignetics branded equine pellets pell it vultured earlier in the season!
Yep. Not much pellet selection around here. Lowes, HD, Tractor Supply, Rural King, and Menards. Hope you like one of those brands, because there's no pellet houses anywhere near me. Fortunately the box stores will usually have Somersets or AWF or Presto Logs or Pro Pellets/Magic Spark. Then again, sometimes it's Easy Heats, Fiber Byproducts, Freedom fuel, pure fire, etc. Gotta be a pig here, because you don't know what's coming next.
We have very few Hearth shops around us. And the ones we do have, try and pimp their wood stoves more than pellet. So they carry less pellet related products (mainly, pellets). Thanks to my BIL chbryson I will have me some Turmans next season (and some Hamer/CE)!!! He has been scouting out his area and found a hardware store that has Turmans in stock all the time. He just bought a ton and is bringing me a few bags on Easter to try before I buy. LOL
Same here in NE PA ,things maybe changing with Bucks Pellets in the mix ,he's 65 miles from my home ,but I work down there [15 miles away ] so he will get my business Joe is a straight shooter ,and he carries a lot of different pellets that Steve and I could never get before . Big Box, and local stove shop is our only other option . Like IHP says "If they can't compete" = make money why do it ??
DexterDay ...you are going to LOVE those Turman too! I still have some in my stash. Very hot and very low ash.
A few reasons...most people around here that live in town are on natural gas, so no pellets for them. There's still a fair amount of woods around here, so firewood is relatively easy to get for a decent price if you have the time and tools to process it. Propane is expensive here, but not as bad as other areas of the country. I think I was paying around $2.oo/gallon a few years ago. Just not enough of a market for it. I saw a truck load of pellets sit at Lowes for at least a few weeks before it finally sold. Granted, the $250/ton price didn't help, as we're used to prices around $200/ton. I only personally know of two other people locally that burn pellets, and one of them stopped burning this year because prices are too high.
