$3.50 - $5.00 a bag. But even with that cost, you must also realize the added benefits that Pellets bring. Unlike cord wood, Pellet hearths are always clean, no bugs, house is always at the same temps, shuts down when to warm, starts up when cold, no need for 2-3 yrs of wood, and even though you may spend $1,000 a year on pellets? It's still cheaper than what most spend on oil or LP. My LP cost almost $3,600 a year. When I installed my Pellet stove 6 yrs ago, I used about 4-4.5 ton a year. Or about $800-$900 dollars to heat with pellets only. My house was MUCH warmer (we run the stat at 75°'ish) and we saved well over $2,500 the 1st year. When I added the wood eater, I cut consumption down to ton. So I now only spend about $400-$500 a year in pellets, and burn 3 cord of wood. But... My wood burning still costs more in the long run. Between all my saws, splitter, and other doodads, I prob spend as much as I did on LP. So overall, Pellets would be cheaper for me. But my CAD won't let me go back to Pellet only I have fun doing it, my home is warmer, I still have 35% in my LP tank after 4 yrs (last fill was Nov 09), and I see it all as a hobby that keeps me busy. But, if given the choice between pellets or wood? Pellets win everytime. Nice to keep the entire house the same temp . As it gets colder, the stat gets turned up more.
30 as of today 12/2 and it has been cold here in the 20's alot. Warmed up today and the next few. Average a bag a day usually, heating over 4000 sqft.
#46 just got dumped in. 42 bags of Timber Heat & Premium, 2 bags of the TSC(Ligs), and 2 bags of the Sets on the coldest 2 nights.
Reminder, you might want to disconnect the vacuum hose while cleaning your pellet stoves with the leaf blower. It might impact some stoves if you don't.
Ah yes, those wimpy vacuum switches that fall apart just sitting there, open the firebox door its easier.
That's where you have an advantage. I don't know why it is the right thing to do, I just know I was warned to do it or face some potential damage. Didn't know that opening the door would protect the switch. Learn something new all the time, trick is to remember it.
Holy crap...I just counted my bags and burned 33 for the season so far....Guess I'll be doing a full cleaning over Xmas when I'm off.....
