start menu/ accessories/ sound recorder and plug in a microphone. Lap tops some have mic built in. Or down load a free recording software on your computer or even on your smart phone.
You'll need some type of recording software. I use Mixcraft. It was $60.00 but there are a number of free programs out there. Audacity is pretty popular. GarageBand is another but I don't know if there is a version for windows. I chose the Mixcraft because my brother in Colorado uses it and we can create and share files. I can lay down a guitar track, render it to MP3 and send it to him. He loads it into the software and puts a bass line to it. He can then send it back and I'll add mandolin. If you don't like the way a track comes out, delete it and do it over. I'm no techie either and there was a bit of a learning curve but I figured it out.
I know how that feels. I could watch those guys walk up and down the neck till I was blue in the fingers and just not get it. Now that I'm learning from someone in a one on one situation it's coming much easier. I'm starting to feel like I understand it. A little slower than some maybe, but I'm getting there. Here's a site you may want to look at. When you're not with your teacher you can look up any chord and 4-5 different ways to play it. I use it for the various scales. This link will take you to "E". This one to Em. The "R" in the yellow circle indicates your "root" note. Happy playing.
You are taking lessons too? COOL! Like tonight he was telling me how to hold everything right and where to place my fingers. I found so many different versions of that on youtube. I gave up and decided to shell out the money. Besides, it gives me something positive to concentrate on. I wish I would have done this 30 years ago. He asked me if I wanted to learn chords for songs or learn it all including how to read music. I told him to start with the basics and I wanted to learn it all. We'll see how long that lasts. Lol.
Yeah, I'm taking lessons to learn the scales. After 30 years of playing it's about time I take the next step and I just couldn't seem to get it on my own. Well worth the money for the progress I've made in the last 8 weeks.
I gave up on trying to get an interface to work on this site. Decided to just plug a mic into the computer and let it pick up everything. Unfortunately it picks up a lot of background noise and static. Here is a test recording I made. I thought I had the whole song memorized but stumbled a couple times. http://www.jamkazam.com/recordings/17a9d194-dbe6-4c6b-bb26-9678bac852e2
Mary had a little lamb I told my teacher to start from the beginning. I want to be able to read notes and all.
I started with "Down in the Valley". It's part of what made me give it up. It's a shame I didn't keep at it when I started at 12 years old. Things come so much easier as a child. BTW. Music can be great therapy.
This is my favorite warm up exercise. It teaches double picking and speed and using all fingers for fretting. It can be easily learned and played at any skill level. Play it as slow as you want or as fast as you can. It's just plain fun to play, no matter what speed you're playing it.
I've been thinking about bringing this thread up for a couple days to ask you how you were making out. I have two scales memorized and starting on a third.
Still hitting the guitar every now and again but I haven't played live in a while, so I kind of envy playing in front of church.
