How much did you burn this season

I have burned a mere 2 cords this year, and I am burning once a day now to take the chill off (really early, I typically burn through June here). And that was mostly fir and cedar. Warmest ever recorded October, December, January, and February in the Cascades this year. Also the lowest snow recorded ever in the Cascades this year. I only got snow in November here. I have enough wood gathered for 3 years now, several cords still needs to be processed. I am set for firewood the earliest in the year I have ever been. Last year I was cutting and processing through July.

I've burned a bit less than 3 cord so far. But I don't think we're done here yet. While the temperature has been mild during the days the past week or so, it still gets down in the 20's at night and I've been making a fire in the evenings. Also, they're calling for 4"-6" of snow tomorrow!! Then 50's on Saturday and then cold if next week.

 

I typically gather and process wood here from February though July during the rainy season. Then I let is season. This 'burning year' I scored a lot of wood in the late fall which is not typical. I will be done processing wood in another month, and then I can kick back until next fall. Unless I come across more oak, alder, locust or maple and then I will start a new unprocessed or semi-processed hardwood pile staked up on pallets.

I normally cut fall through winter usually im done at this time of year but this year I wasn't able to cut in the fall very much and I came across a crap ton of ash that I've been cutting on since last month. I'm going to try something different this year and cut a little bit during warm months and hit it real hard again in fall and winter. Looking to get as far ahead as I can

 

For wood cutting/gathering here on state forest lands, I am pinched between the rainy season when they close the roads into the mountains for cutting wood in the fall/winter, and the fire season when they cut off wood gathering in summer. So typically that only leaves the spring time for wood hunting. This fall I managed to get a lot of wood on CL from arborist jobs in the city/burbs. The year before I did not score any wood on CL at all.

 

I think I'll have burned close to 6 cords by the time this winter's over. Last year I burned almost 5. This year I had some wood that had a bit more punk on it, didn't turn the gas on at all, and was home a bit more. I'll have to cut some in the summer to replace what I've burned this year.

 

21 cords processed and stacked? That is a LOT of firewood. Scotty the Wood Ho kind of firewood.

 

4 cord of red oak to date and 1 1/2 of pine. We still have snow on the ground and normal high should be 45-50 but only in the upper 20 to low 30s. Last year we used 3 cord oak and 1 pine and it was talked of as the worst winter in years and was till now. More snow on the way Fri. night into Sat. yup climate change.

 

Burned a little over 3 cords so far and on pace to burn 4 cords. Still very cold here in Mass, in the 20s and very windy!

 

I'm on pace to burn about 4 give or take a little. I'll have a more concrete number when I'm done near the end of April or early May.

 

Mmmmmm..... smoked brisket. ....

 

I think we will be about 4 when done. I planned for 7, but we had a mild winter out west, unlike you eastern folks. I am still new at this, but I am guessing 6-7 will be my norm until I get the house tightened up.

We'll Prolly slide in just under 5. No tally yet on propane usage. We have a small fire from the HSK wood just to take the edge off burning in the princess tonight. House is warm, and wifey likes it that way.

 

So far less than two cords from my stacks and around 2/3 cord of uglies/shoulder season wood.

 

Around 6 cord here but we're still burning. It's looking like we'll be burning well into April.

First day of spring.

 

I've used just at 3 1/3 cords the past 2 years, but this year I've used almost 4.5. Some of that is because I had less oak to throw in with my ash. But I think it was also colder for a longer time (in spite of the report I saw on ABC Wednesday night that said this was the warmest winter ever on record).

 

That's because Siberia was a few degrees warmer than normal. Like 30 below instead of 35 below.

 

Burlington had coldest February on record and I am on average 5 deg lower than them. I am against pollution but all for vermont warming or maybe I should move farther south for lower taxes and cheaper heating mmm
