I took a piece inside and left it by my stove. Thawed and less than two days later it sticks with very little effort. Interesting.
I noticed my pick doesn't like frozen oak at all. Clanks right off. Just like you said, unthaw... no prob.
Ummm...Stinny just so you know if you want to "unthaw" the wood you might want to leave it outside this time of year where it's nice and cold
No. Wood was obtained in VT. I brought a piece home because I had a feeling it had something to do with being frozen and wanted to see.
Scrap piece of PCV pipe and a tarp bungee tie down works as a quick cover. (A certain teenager left it outside in the weather for a while so now it's got some surface "patina"):
I'd be in for a group buy. I've got a peavy branded one with a 36" handle, but one with a 20" or so handle would be really nice. I like the cut stick idea with the 16" one though too, maybe an 18" handle may be the right length.
I see this guy has raised his prices on both the pickeroon and the shipping since we all expressed a strong interest in them and gave him all this FREE ADVERTISING. I was very interested in getting one when he was selling them at 52.00 plus shipping (to Canada was only 13.00!). Now he wants 68.00 plus 17.00 which makes this thing an $85.00 tool. That's a hefty price for a $12.00 ACE Hardware handle and 4.00 worth of scrap steel. I live in PA and the shipping wouldn't even be half that by USPS ( I know ... I work there.) I talked to him today and when I nicely asked why the price has gone up so much since December, he got all rude and 'uppity' and said, "I don't care if you buy one or not, I can't sell them fast enough", and hung up on me. Yeah ... hung up on me! I spent 40 years in business as a self employed person, and I gotta say, it seems that since you all sparked a lot of interest in his product lately, he wouldn't JACK the $#@& out of us on the price so bad as a payback for the business we generated.. I'll make one for myself and if it works out, I'll sell them for $50.00 plus economy shipping anywhere in the U.S. It never pays to be rude to a customer.
U will get addicted to fHC real fast it's an awsome place all the guys and gals on here are most friendly people there is they will help u with any question u have im glad to be a member .
Yep, Thanks Prell ... I've been following along for a long time, and I also see there's an FHC TV Network too. I've viewed most everything on there too, and I enjoy it. Been cutting my own firewood since about 10 years old. Love it ....
Welcome to the club Woodcooker. That's sad and messed up that that guy is acting like that. No way I would pay 85 bucks for that tool. I have nice pickaroon it cost me $39 plus $10 shipping
I emailed him on a short one, like the custom one earlier in this thread, apparently custom sizes are now $78 + shipping. Good for him I suppose. I've got one drawn up right now, and it will be going in the CNC lathe later.
Zang! I was thinking about this the other day.... I'm thinking that I'll be making one myself. $52 I can see, but to me he's priced himself out.
Thanks BrianK ... good to be here! Maybe I just caught him on a bad day with the 'attitude' ... we all can have a bad day ... but the pricing is now rediculous in my opinion. What I would have done if it was me making those things ... all of us Members on here would get the 'old' 52.00 price for giving him so much notoriety and business, and let him charge the rest of the world as he see's fit. That's just the way I roll when an organization has brought me business in the past. If you really think about it ... you can drive a big landscape spike through a 32" softball bat, sharpen that sucker, and have a nasty Pick-a-roon!! Cheap too! lol!
