It's straighter than I usually get too, and smaller diameter. I wonder if the smaller diameter may translate to less cords? I paid $700. I'm hoping it's at least 7 cords.
I've thought that perhaps some day I'd like to get a load like that just for the fun of cutting it up and not having to mess with limbs. But, it would not make sense with all the wood we have on our place. Why pay when you already have and the taxes aren't that bad either.
Looks nice! You should get your usual yield. Diameter won't matter so long as they are straight and full length. It's when crooked logs create air space or shorts get on the truck that it comes in under. I get about 6 cords at best from a tree service load because of irregular pieces.
Somehow it doesn't look to big this year, but it' likely an illusion. The proof, at some point, will be in the stacking!
hmmm.... I recently saw a CL add fro free firewood from a tree service. I called and they put me on their list, they said when they do work in my area they will call the night before and dump what they have for free. Would be nice if I could get a load like that, except I have nowhere to put it!
But, once you cut, split, and stack, it consumes so much less space! I remember seeing someone who got a big delivery out by the curb, and went crazy at it with some help and processed it in a very short period of time. You're lucky, in a way, because not many people burn wood out there. Around here, plenty of people do.
The tree service up here drops the limbs and leaves them by the road because they know that a few guys in a pick up will be all over it in a few hours, middle of the night or not.
I finished splitting. Alas, I have to move it again to where it will season. I hate the double work, but that's the way it worked out. Not even sure where it will go. Before: After:
Hopefully you can find a good breezy location & on pallets. A place you can see easily, it'll be nice to look at, every day
