I have a Poulan Pro 5020av saw, which uses a Oregon D70 ("Vanguard") chain. I would like to try a full chisel chain, to see how it works out. Is there an "out of the box" chain that I could try, and how do I find the part number?

Not sure what you mean by out of the box but I would go to place that sells Oregon chains and ask if they could help you.

Thanks. By "out of the box" I guess I mean I don't want to use bulk chain or anything. Just put the thing on and run it.

I think that saw came with a 20" bar in 3/8" pitch / .050 drivers.. Question is, would it be 72 or 70 drive links.. Either way, your local farm and home should have those hanging on a hook. I agree with Don.. Oregon LPX would be a very good match for that saw. If they don't have that, LGX would do.
At a stihl dealer, you'd need RSC chain.

Is it 70 DL or 72 DL?

It looks like the 72LPX070G will work on the saw. I will order that and see how it works out. Thanks all for the help.

    It is.. You are correct...
The wide, ramped depth guides are it's downfall as far as speed of cutting goes.. I've found it rather difficult to deal with.. Not impossible, but goofy difficult...

I changed one of em over to .325 but the day I took it out to cut I see the chain I put on it was in sad shape, so I didn't get a good test, now that I have two I can test em together.
Sure wish I lived in the country so I didn't have to drive 50 miles to cut wood.

You'll like the LGX Oregon chain too. Funny how the OEM 20" bar on that saw takes 70 DL 3/8" chain, though. Most all other 20" K095 bars need 72 DL chain of that pitch. Having a breaker/spinner, priceless.
Feel the need to toss "Vanguard" chain? Works fine for me. I'll take it. Just gotta keep it sharp- nothing new about that.

Yup, the city will not let ya burn wood, the house insurence will not let ya burn wood, the city will not even let ya have a little stack of wood next to the shed.
I have to go out to relatives and friends in the country to tune & test saws.:(
