We had 36 this morning with some rain, more cherry in the liberty. It's supposed to be colder the next two nights so I gave the pellet stove a good cleaning on the inside, so it's ready to go.
Windy here and 27 degrees, forecast to get down to 16 tonight. NWS also says to expect wind through Thursday. Blick.
Howling outside right now. Cold front coming in and gonna be in the single digits tomorrow wind chill...
Going back to winter for the next couple of days with a chance of snow on Friday. Brought some oak and hard maple in and will load the stove tonight for the first time in a week... KaptJaq
I here ya , if it's to cold I don't have to go outside at all ,except a quick hop to the back deck for wood. I worked outside some in my younger years, said the heck with that , got a job inside
Like others here, I've had my fun in the cold. Back around 1981-82, I was up in Houlton Maine with another guy, doing signwork. All of the time and temp units confirmed it and so did the radio/TV stations... 50 below zero! Luckily, it was flat dead calm winds. We actually worked on a gas station sign... 5-6 minutes at a time, one at a time... the other was inside with boots off warming up. Felt like we were in outer space. We had a hairdryer up inside the sign pointed at our hands while we wired up a ballast... for $6.50/hr... Heh... I'm OK now lookin' at the Liberty burnin' good in the monin' with a coffee in my hand...
Here's the fire I've got rolling now. Very old ash, and a nice piece of elm on top. And here's a pic showing my Brittany, Belle, enjoying the fire and TV. She's been having an anxiety attack again the last day and a half. The fire has her calm and happy. Plus she likes her vest. It helps keep her warm, and I think it calms her a bit too.
It is 14º on the back porch right now. Ash burning in the boiler. Most of the snow is gone, but the cold nights are not gone yet.
12 here this morning, still got way too much snow here and she sure ain't gonna melt in this weather. Still pouring the maple to the stove....................
3 below wind chill here with the winds still howling. News said our area has had 49 mph gusts. Sure can hear it through the trees... sounds like a very angry ocean. Winter is very much still here for sure. Liberty is rolling gooder with some oak and ash.
Not bad here 26 , loaded up last night w oak, sugar, and a chunk of ash , lots of coals left , stove top still at 400
It's about 50F here, the house is @ 60. Got some pecan burning right now. House gets cold w/out a fire! Eric VW
Heading to minus two tonight so we'll burn some ironwood in the liberty and in the opposite corner we'll set the pellet stove at 76. I pulled a muscle in my finger turning on the pellet stove last night, the doc said I'll be out of action until next week.
22 out, 78 inside. The winds have finally let up after 24 hours. I'm burning Norway maple. I let the stove get to about 450 and closed the primary all the way down in increments and have been enjoying a nice blue secondaries show for over an hour.
First time in about a week we've had more than 1 fire per day. Burning poplar for quick heat after work offering a nice bed of coals for a load of pin oak to put in as the night load. Temps in upper teens/low 20's at night, recovering into the low/mid 30's during the day. Up to 4" of fresh wet snow friday. Should be a messy commute to close out the week on the first day of spring.
