I was looking at all the stuff we have down and wishing I could get out to get cutting. However, for the last 10 days I've not done much. I've had sore throats before and strep throat but never anything like this one. I ended up with some large ulcer-type sacks in my throat and the back of my tongue. It got so bad that most days it was pure H ell just to swallow saliva. Extreme pain. Still got it but at least I got out and did some work this afternoon and what a day it was. We got to 60 today!!!! Not much sun but warm.

So I cut today but didn't start the saw either. Raspberries! Have to cut out the dead canes and prune the good ones. I was not able to finish but it felt good to be doing something. This thing has really kicked me hard and it is like I have no energy. Maybe I'm just getting lazy though. I'll try to do more and sorry, no pictures.

I have decided the fruit trees will not get pruned this year but they will be fine. We're debating on ordering more trees and I think we will add a few apple, peach and cherry (both red and dark). We get those through the Soil Conservation and we order them in March and get them in Apriil.

Said I should not be drinking whiskey. Might burn even worse. But anyway, he thought it must be some type of viral infection. If not better by tomorrow I'll have to go back. Will need more of that numbing stuff anyway. Geeze, this might not be a good week for doctors. Already have appointments with eye specialist and skin doctor and now this. Guess the checkbook gets another big hit.

Whiskey is not good for a sore throat. I find scotch works better.

That doesn't sound like fun. It's gotta be even worse trying to rest on a day like that, after a winter like this! Being sick never seems to work very well for my big plans. At least the firewood can wait - you're plenty ahead and it sounds like easy pickins, right?

    Get well soon Dennis!

Dennis, sounds like you could use some of the Baldwin sisters "recipe" from The Waltons.

When I went through radiation treatment after they cut out my throat cancer it was all I could do to swallow water. What worked for me was to eat Ramen noodles just to get some calories down. I found I could use the water for my ramen noodles to boil up one or another vegetable like green peas or kernel corn and it did not make it any harder to swallow. I would start by measuring the water as if I was just going to cook the noodles but would let the veggies boil with the water before adding the noodles. I drank lots of eggnog too but that is only available seasonally, not now.

I have found that sucking on aspirin will ease the pain enough that I can tolerate the whisky. And vice versa.

You can get egg nog now. I bought some the other day. Easter is soon I guess. Easter eggs, egg nog, I dunno. I love nog, so I bought some.

I hope your throat gets better Dennis. A really sore throat will ruin anyone's day, and dealing with it for a few days now has to be maddening.

Dennis, take care of yourself and take it easy. I know it sucks to be laid up but maybe some R&R would get you back to 100% faster. I try to push through or go nuts with cabin fever and end up being sicker longer than if I'd just taken time to heal.

Maybe devote your hoarding instinct toward writing another article like you did on the burning... "A Brief History of Firewood Stacking from Colonial Times to the Early Twentieth Century" :D

    Get better!

I find a little honey mixed with Jack goes down a little easier with a sore throat.

That was many moons ago, back in 2001. I saw the surgeon today who did the neck surgery and he told me to never come back for a check unless I had new symptoms. Here I was happy just to be alive.

That is good news Oldman. It had to be a real trial going through it though.

Sure wish those old girls lived near here! Shoot, I'd just love to go through that old home and just look around.

Funny, I guess that show was on tv many years ago but not being tv watchers, we never saw it. Someone gave us one of the years movies and we liked them so bought the entire series. It is good until the end when they began to lose actors and had replacements. That took some away from it.

Well, one can make egg nog quite easily. I remember it used to be a big thing when I was young but I was the only one in the family who never liked it. Later someone tried to get me to drink some that was, "doctored" up a bit but it still tasted awful to me. So I stuck with the "doctored" part and let others drink the nog.

Guess I wore myself out yesterday as not much has got done today. Well, I did bring some wood to the porch as all we had left on the porch is some big stuff and we needed some small stuff.

And with all the cold in February, even some of January, it appears unless we have a really long cold spell, we probably will not burn more than 3 cord of wood this winter and perhaps less than 3. There is still plenty in the barn.
