New email sent out by Woodstock. Thought some just might like to save a few dollars.

Why is it time to go Hybrid?
Because hybrid woodstoves combine the technologies of secondary burning and catalytic combustion to create the most efficient, cleanest burning wood heat on the planet.

Take a look at our award-winning Ideal Steel Hybrid!
Why does the IDEAL STEEL Hybrid have the largest firebox and the highest efficiency, but the lowest price of all of our woodstoves? The answer is that we were challenged by the Woodstove Design Challenge to design a stove that was both very efficient and affordable. So we did!

If you haven’t looked at new woodstoves for a while, we invite you to check out our new Ideal Steel Hybrid, for both its technological advancement in this industry, as well as its affordable price. You can still purchase an Ideal Steel Hybrid for as low as $1795 during our hybrid sale... and get free shipping too! (up to $250)

Our Hybrid woodstoves are on sale through April 10, 2015. Our Hybrid prices will not be this low again! So, take a look at our sale prices, and call us at 1-800-866-4344.

Got the email, really want one. But not sure it can do what we need. We have a PE Summit right now, and we had trouble with coals building up with the 0 to -10 degree days. What does anyone else think about the IS versus PE Summit? Will it do better with longer medium to medium high burns?

I got the email today too. Glad I had one in October last year, not sure the Jotul would have carried us another year.

I have a T6 which is a summit dressed in different clothes but same insides. Though I have not had experience with the IS personally I would say the IS would be an upgrade. My stove was coaling some and the ash pan leaves a lot to be desired. Easy ash management without having to deal with coals is making me look at the Progress Hybrid.

Good timing. Just signed up here (was a poster on that other forum), and thinking about upgrading to the Ideal Steel. While my Jotul Rockland does a great job, it just isn't quite enough on the coldest few weeks of the winter and with my hours at my job no way can it last through my workday, stone cold and not even embers enough to re-lite when I get home. So looking for something bigger and longer burning. So far the IS sounds like it may be on the top of the list plus has the value factor making it my prime consideration so far.

    Thanks Fox and JA!

Yeah I was Ohioburner over there. I'll likely create a similar thread over here to get some more opinions and specifics, now that I have a better idea and some direction. Hopefully next winter I'll have a better heating arrangement one way or another!

I had a Summit that I had no luck with what so ever, the IS is probably more versatile then the Summit.
The coal build is normal for a EPA stove that you do not let cycle through, which means you are not getting the heat out of the stove you need when it's cold.
For the most part my Drolet has ended my coaling problems because it put out more heat then my Summit ever did.
I also am considering the IS as they have a return policy but not sure if I would have enough time before the 6 months runs out to get a good feel for it.

If I weren't hoping to get out of Illinois before too long, I'd consider that IS for sure.

    Welcome to the forum T-Stew.

On the coaling problems, it can definitely be a problem. With our stove, we found that if we open the draft fully just before the burn gets all the way down to coals, the stove will hold the temperature and burn down the coals at the same time. On occasions when perhaps we've been gone before the burn gets to that point we do end up with lots of coals. In those times we will add a small split or maybe 2 if it is really cold outdoors. Leave the draft full open and even rake through the coals to loosen them and that will help burn them down quicker. As they get down a bit, move most to the front of the stove.

    Welcome to the FHC, T-Stew.
We installed our Ideal Steel last October and I'm astounded to have 2/5 of what firewood was stored for winter still left. I can't talk to whether the IS would work for you, but there are several long in depth threads here on the IS.

Is the cat probe a standard now on the IS or is there just a port there to add one later? Some picture show a probe, others show a port, and yet others don't have either.

There is no cat probe from Woodstock. Most folks like me just stick a magnet on the front. Others have ordered one from condar and cut it to length.

So there is a port there for a probe?
