My buddy has been wanting his ash tree taken down before it leaves a limb on his car or house. So we finely got everything lined up to get job done. He rented me a 40 ft lift. Since we still had a bit of daylight left, figured we get a head start on it... We will start out again in the morn.
Great pics so far...... be safe tomorrow, take pics/vids when it's safe to do so and have fun! A lot of primo wood to be had there!
Nice work chvymn99! That tree looks like it had a lean to it. Is it leaning right toward the house there?
Yes its got a lean in towards the house... But his parents put a guideline that is planted into the ground and wrapped up around 15' up there. So my plans is to knock out all the branches off the house side first.
Yes, this one is a bit sturdier than the last one that was rented (it was like 30 ft)... Plus that little Echo is pretty awesome up there which also adds to the fun. Makes it a lot easier to have the right equipment...
That looks like a lot of fun! Stay safe and keep an eye on your drop zone! With all those toys you got, thought for sure you'd have be using a Mastermind MS200T! What's up with the Echo?
Thanks will do... I thought about a 200T but for the quantity of time of use and $$$$...Then I talked to HoneyFuzz .... so with a Muffler mod and a retune. She runs plenty well for me. Plus I got to keep a bit of diversity in the lineup....
They are a great tool to have and use. Do they provide a safety harness to put on when you rent? We ended up deciding to get one after one of Dad's former classmates died from injuries after falling off the roof of his son's barn. Sometimes the intial cost of something seems small compared to the price it could cost you. We use it quite a bit and do not regret it.
I drive those JLG lifts all the time at work, I would think driving them on the grass or a field that they would have a tendency to sink into the ground and get stuck especially if wet, I know they make 4x4 models as well and that would help
This one is a 600S 4x4 diesel. Yes, it is heavy. Right at 20000 lbs and as you say, they do leave their mark. But that is the best part of owning one. Their is no rush and you can wait for conditions to be right so you don't have the mess if you were rushed with renting. I had been looking for several years and got this one at the peak of the recession from a dealer in Chicago. Less than 1400 hours and warranteed with current certs. a year later when things picked up the prices went way up again so for once, I hit it right. The cost is quickly offset if you start considering what you'd pay to do the work with their stuff. We done 2 complete barn roof replacements. Painted 2 large barns, all kinds of tree work and home repairs and such. I know my neighbors like the help too
Safety, safety, safety. Don't get cocky up there, it will cost you. Remember compression side first then tension side. Even a branch can cause trouble if you don't do it right, especially over a house.
