Is it "common/normal" to need to adjust this as the weather warms up??? Twas mid '50's here today. Got the old McCullock out this afternoon to sharpen the chain, check the rakers, and just clean up the saw for use thats planned here shortly. She started up just like normal. Once she sputters on full choke, close choke and then fires on next pull................trip high throttle and all is good. Save for the fact the chain is still going at a decent clip. Turned the "idle" screw down to where she'd almost not run and then back a fraction. Still good response of idle hitting the throttle. Won't have a chance to test in cuts until tomorrow. Just saying. Was just asking about the warm weather because I've been running her in "cold" weather prior. Last I ran her, the temps were almost single digits.
Sometimes that's happened to me after the saw(s) were sitting a month or so.Dont remember if time of year/temp was a factor though. Also you might want to check the clutch also,if any of the springs or shoes are bad, that would also cause the chain to keep spinning.Found that out for certain last Sunday with the 125C.
Like Dex said, they all contribute to the tune. Since I am very anal about the tune on my saws, I have even re-tuned as the sun started setting just to keep the machine singing the way I like her to.
My 61 needs to be adjusted nearly every time I take her out - seems to always need to be leaned out a bit on the high and idle needs to be turned up a bit. After a quick tune she does real well. +1 one Thistle's comment on checking for weak clutch springs if you are still spinning at low idle rpms. Cheers!
