I'm looking for a Stihl decal for the side cover. If you have a extra laying around or can point in the direction to get one I'd much appreciate it. Thank you.
That's just going to say "Stihl" on it; it's not specific to the 044. The old metal tags that said 'Made in Germany' are NLA so far as I know, but a dealer can give you a plastic tag that will fit.
Yep, it'll be a an orange plastic badge with two pins sticking out the back. The only time I bought one it wasn't a snap-fit and there didn't seem to be any way to attach it using rivets the way the original metal tag worked, so I glued it on with a couple of dabs of silicone caulk. The old metal tags show up on eBay once in a while, and you can still get the rivets for them at the dealer.
I bought a couple off eBay a while back, but I can't find them now. I did find this one... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=181669813344
I am going to say this about the tags, I needed an 046 top cover tag and happened to be at the dealer and asked about one and the dealer price was $3 vs. $7-9 on Ebay. The master control lever was also comparable with AM prices. Your milage may vary.
Yep, for smaller, currently-available parts eBay is often a bad deal unless it saves you a long drive.
Yep, and my Stihl dealer is a block from the Southern States coop to which I am a producer member, so I am often driving by.
I wrote the post, before I took the pic. I thought it said West Germany and never looked after I took the pic. Regardless, this is Era specific for that saw. I sent you a text Kev.
