90 gallon is a great tank size but waay too big for sexy shrimp. If they weren't eat'in they'd certainly be lost. The 8 gallon tank is perfect.

Yeah, I never tried anything smaller than cleaner or scarlet shrimp in my 200g reef.

What kind of lighting do you have on that rbta/ clown tank?

    Success!!!!!!!!!!

I cleaned and assembled the hand-me-down canister filter and it works!! It took a while to get the filter media here, the terms are different than I knew before. Despite the impellar having some good scars (think the last owner did Africans so hard build up in there), it fired up and worked!:dancer:

I still can't get the new hose hooked up to a sink. Brand new sinks, hose adapters do not fit so I ordered an extra adapter kit, they fit one of the sinks but not the AQ hose :headbang:

    Tanks:

I've had fresh water fish with varying sizes of tanks. My experience has been that the larger the tank, the easier it is to maintain. My last tank was a 55 gal tank. For now I don't have one, but do plan to add one again. That tank will be a minimum of 90 gallons. Just don't tell the wife.

    Plants:

I went to live plants a year before I got rid of this tank. What a difference. Loved the look, and the fish really liked it. Bit more difficult to clean, but I'd not do a tank with plastic plants ever again.

    Fish:

I've had most of the hardiest fish that can be found for fresh water, and let me tell you they are still delicate. All of your numbers need to be inline. Very few fish can survive if your numbers are off. Like everything else in life, it's about balance. My last set of fish I planned out meticulously. They were around for about a year when several died. The rest went back to the pet store.

As I said my next project will be saltwater. My roommate from college had a saltwater setup, and I really loved the live rock. Saltwater is no any easier than freshwater. I just like the difference. Our local pet store does not carry much in the way of saltwater fish. Which means I'll have to find another pet store or order online. For now I've not bothered to even start looking for tanks or planning out my setup. I can see the divorce papers coming right after I put a tank in. :)

The nano tanks intimidate me lol. Besides, I want it mostly for humidity and 13 gal is not what I had in mind. I have done alot of shopping online lately, seems there are more large tall tanks that were previously longs. For all you know your wife might like to admire a large tall one that has a smaller footprint:) Keep us updated!

Yes, the smaller the tank, the quicker the problems happen. The solution for pollution is dilution.

Marine tanks are fun. The biodiversity is amazing, as well as the colors.

Wildwest, did you soak the impeller in vinegar? That works great, and just needs rinsing off in water to be safe again.

Never used a python as they were not around when I was into freshwater, and tap water and salt tanks are a no no.

I'm sure there's a way to adapt what you have. The end of the faucet does not unscrew? Pics please:). There's got to be a way to macgyver them together.

Going well so far, of the 4 of the 6 fish that came home are happy :) I am not a fan of tetras and the two that didnt make it were.........tetras.

Since then, some toddler toys have been retrieved from the bottom of the tank, the fish nibble at her finger tips, great entertainment though I worry about contamination lol. Today she took her barbie doll 'wimmin' in there. Glad the doll floated so I did not have to retrieve it from the bottom. Fun stuff :)

When she gets older and if shes interested we will get more advanced fish, for now, its a great "mothers helper" that provides extra humidity.

    Neat Deal!

I like tetras. Black tetras are my favorite, but I always have a soft spot for neon or cardinal tetras. That was my first fish.

I liked tetras at one time too.....At that time, I loved the black tetras too!

I ended up donating several black tetras to the college biology building aq that was in the entry one year, cracked me up to see them the next year schooling with other tetras of different colors. Yep, they are pretty cute :)
