Time to take out the :dremel::sleeping::dremel::sleeping::dremel: that should do it:fire:

I live Solar gain. No stoves at all today. Wife shut down the Enerzone at 7am and when I got home this evening, it was 77° in the house!! :hair:

I love this warm weather. We almost hit 50° today. I can't wait till Wed/Thurs this week. Supposed to be right near 60°. It's a "warm" welcome (pun intended ;) )

There are several key areas that need cleaned. The obvious is the firebox and ash pan area. The firebox and all passages should be as close to 100% free of ash as you can.

1.) The back wall of the firebox is hollow. So a brush needs stuck up the back of it, until it comes out by the heat exchange tubes up top.

2.)Remove the small rectangular clean out plate above the heat exchange tubes and clean the tubes extremely well.A long bristled brush works well for this, or compressed air (make sure you have a leaf blower hooked to your vent outside if using air)

3.) The exhaust path behind your ash pan (one hole on new units, two holes on older units) A long lint brush or what's called a coil brush (cleaning a refrigerator coil)

4.)Remove the Clean out plate that is on the lower left side of furnace (exhaust path that leads the exhaust manifold.) And scrub and vac it out really good. Coil/lint brush here as well.

5.) I only remove my combustion blower every other year. But I only burn between 1.5 to 2 ton in my furnace every year. Cleaning the impeller on the combustion blower should be done yearly if you have burned a substantial amount of fuel. My unit does not have an inspection plate. But I heard the new ones may? If your's has this? You are a lucky man!! To remove the blower on mine. You have to break the seal on the vent to the snout on the furnace, then remove the entire exhaust manifold, and finally remove the motor/impeller assembly.

6.) Clean vent and termination cap.

I normally have my leaf blower running the entire time I am cleaning the furnace.

And after I clean the inside of the furnace, I spray Pam Cooking Spray over the inside of the firebox, heat exchange tubes, ash pan area, ash pan, etc. This will help keep surface rust to a minimum.

I will try and take pics to better describe where these places may be. If my description is not good enough.

The gaskets on these furnaces are pretty tough (foil backed on one side) but sometimes you're not so lucky. There are 4 gaskets total that you may need to replace. Only 2 gaskets if you have the inspection plate on the exhaust blower)

    Hope this helps..

Is the combustion blower in the rear?
I still don't know how they expect you to remove the rear cover with a 10" return duct there blocking the screws.

Here is what's behind the exhausts cover...

What comes off when you remove those 4 bolts?

Is that the elusive inspection cover I have heard of?

    Yes. Very different

This is an updated version for my furnace. The old one was even more restrictive than this one.

I will get pics of the old manifold tomorrow and pics of all the other places I spoke of above.

Who on here has the newer furnace like mine? I want to know if I need a gasket before removing those 4 bolts.

That definitely looks to be the inspection cover. I saw that on the units being produced when I got the factory tour a couple years back.

TAA - I think you're the member with the newest unit here. If I had to guess, it's a foil faced gasket like all the others. I tore one on the left side inspection plate. I just used a dab of RTV to fix the part that I boogered up.

I believe Ward8512 is the only other one with a new unit like yours. But she just got hers last year and has gone through a lot since then. So I am unsure as to whether she looked behind there or not?

I took the two middle screws out of that rear plate and left them out. The two on each side of that rear panel hold it on there just fine.

The combustion blower is on the right side of the unit behind that big panel you removed.

You are correct. I forgot that she got a newer unit after the initial problems she had.

Good question. I've never torn one of the newer units apart. I'd suspect you'd see the blades on the combustion blower. Only one way to find out. :)

On mine, I have to separate the venting from the exhaust output and unbolt the whole manifold, remove the assembly from the furnace, then remove the combustion motor assembly from the manifold. You'll have it made if you don't have to go through all that.
