Carbon Steel. Wall thickness is a little skinny for SMAW, I haven't really had much luck with mig and water tight welds. Probably a loose nut connecting the mig gun to the floor....

The tubes are poked through and welded to the plate on the back side. Then the plates are welded into the headers. I have a fixture designed for pressure testing the tube sheet weldments before they are welded into the headers.

yep its a built 434 chevy small block with a carb and nitrous, he scaled back his 1500HP claim today and said well its at least 1000, 800+ on the motor than add the nitrous. Just going by what he is telling me, I'm just the welder, did the motor mounts, tranny mount/cross member, and headers

For tig I run straight argon, er70s-6 and scratch off a copper plate.

For the mig I run 75/25 with .035 super arc L-56. If I switch to 95/5 I could probably get into spray transfer and I hear that can help with making water tight welds. Some one else told me excel arc 71 with co2 was the only way to fly.

I have the most time in on SMAW with tig being a close second. That probably why I get best results with them.

I got a scrap ticket approved for the refractory. These babies are coming home with me on thursday.

That's a little more realistic, but still a stretch. Least he is aiming high.

That is the main reason I bought a Tig was to weld aluminum.
The magnesium came later due to the advantages in repairing saws.
The other thing is that Tig is such a nice clean looking weld.

Nice looking welds. I cannot do anything that nice looking. I just weld for a hobby.
I have a Miller synchrowave 250 with a water cooler on the back and a thumb wheel for current control.
