If heat is the first consideration....

If heating capacity is first, cost second, looks last, what pellet burners come to mind? My wife is on another of her "I'm cold " rants.
If i do anything with the prefab upstairs fireplace, it looks like $7000.
The other option is to change out the stove I'm currently using.

 

LOL you sure know how to stay on the wrong side of things.

Give her, her own pellet stove, vent it through that upstairs prefab fireplace.

ETA: Yeah I know I'm such a big help. But a small one there may be just the ticket.

You know, I just discussed that with her. Let's just say she bristled up a bit. She wants me to buy oil for the furnace.
So for now she is running an electric space heater. She has more layers on than our bed does, and it is 73f in here.

 

Sounds like she is thin blooded and wants it about 80 or so where she is.

Put a small one upstairs on a t-stat so she can turn it up if she wants to.

All you are likely going to accomplish with the larger unit (Ask northern where is was made and who does the warranty work.) is to run you out of your area.

 

My family drives me nuts....it's currently 75 in the house and they complain it's "cold". WTF!

 

It's situations like these where I'm glad I'm hard of hearing.

Lol....this is my stove......except they got rid of the heat exchangers and changed the burnpot.

I can't imagine it heats as well as mine since j have 18 tubes versus none.....but I can say that my stove heats very well.

Mine is a Hudson River, no longer made by them. This Vogelzang is a USSC brand.

 

The skillet would be out long before January.

 

You didn't say how much area you want to heat up for your "better half", but I'd be saving some $$ on this if she needs it right away....and it looks good, to boot. Put this on the main floor:

$7000.. to do something in the prefab what do you get for that???

 

They tear out the inner walls of the prefab and put another box in that will hold an incert. Then they line the chimney.
Lot of money. Far more than it cost for the free standing unit I have now.

 

Ouch that doesn't seem like an option to me.
Is it possible to put a free standing unit in there??

 

She would rather spend a few hundred each winter and run the furnace. At $7000, that would be $500 in oil for 14 years. And that doesn't include cost of wood or pellets to run it. That also puts me older than most of the men in my family ever live. I've got to do better on the cost to make it worth it. Lots to think about.

 

Is there an easy way to get duct work from your current stove area to where the boss normally is? If so then Dexter has the answer in that 65. In fact it may lessen the heat in your normal hiding spot making it more comfortable for you. You can sell the NPS40 on Craig's list.

 

Got the same comments yesterday when it was 70 deg in here.... Funny, I thought it was just fine, even a bit too warm for me.

Ig you can swing that Drolet and hook up some vents, it might be the answer. I know it would help me in my setup at times.
