    Hello All
I love the forum and hope to learn from everyone. I'm just getting started with my woodburning stove and firewood seasoning so any information is great.

Welcome to the forum! I for one am very interested to hear about (and see) any aspects of the firewood process you folks use down there. Probably much different than how we do it nearly anywhere else in the country I'd imagine?

Welcome, Knothead! We have several members from the great state of Texas!

Speaking of which, my one buddy just drove down there yesterday to go hog hunting for the next several days. We may be eating some smoked pork next week at work

Hey LongShot, I'm located on the southern edge of the "Big Thicket" about half way between Liberty and Livingston. Mainly a logging area of loblolly pine, red and white oak.

    Hey Scotty,
I'm in the middle of wild hog country (The Big Thicket), feral hogs and pineywood rooters are everywhere. With the large amount of oak trees in the area we often get four legged visitors in our yard and garden overnight. Good luck on the smoked pork next week.

One of my roommates at U of H was from Liberty. Is rice still a big crop down there? Lots of pine logged in NE Texas, mostly for pulpwood, although I haven't spent much time there in the last 30 or so years. :BrianK:

    Hello Yooperdave,
I'm not a wood carver.....but wish I could do work like on my avatar.
I have a four month old Vermont Casting Encore stove, with red oak seasoned for about 18 months, mixed with a small amout of pecan seasoned for about a year. Hopefully I can get some pics posted in the next few days.

    Hey again LongShot,
We have a lot of rice grown in the area just south of where I live (Liberty and Dayton), but near my house is mainly pine timber and oil. The oil boom has gone to bust in the last few months, don't know how long the low prices on a barrell of crude will stay down. But it's really hurting the local economy.

    Welcome to the forum Knothead.

Just getting started? Might as well do it right! And lots information is just a couple clicks away. Here is a link that will take you to the Resources of this forum and it will take you to a lot of information on getting started and doing things right. You might get by with a shorter drying time just because you are so far south but still make sure you stay ahead on the wood pile. The benefits are super! Good luck.
