Fireplace tool setup

    Then you can see the new stove when it is cranking. It is 20s right now outside and it is a little too warm on the inside.

    Do you load your stove east West?
    Maybe you could try welding gloves and welding sleeves

    I load my stove both ways depending on the log size and how I want it to burn. I will be using new welding gloves that are a bit longer than my old ones. I am not sure I want to dress up in the sleeves as well. Good idea though...

    Question, when saying N/S, is that in reference the the opening the wood goes through? Or true direction?

    My stoves have always been front opening..... Would it be different if I had a side opening stove?

    Yep, just the opening, front to back =N/S, side to side =E/W
    if you had a side load it would still be called E/W

    Rake made by our chimney service guy. 3/8 round stock and 3/16 plate
    and an el cheapo ash shovel from Lowes
    stove gloves from TSC
    and the WS Fireview "tool"

    Tim,
    The rake is very similar to what I was going to buy. How well does is scrape ashes from the corners? Can you get the front by the door? I am wondering if I will need to use a different tool to push the ash that is below the door due to the size of the handle on the rake, and the way the handle is perpendicular to the rake.
