    Living next to a large body of water that never sees ice on it, it is hard to imagine the Great Lakes frozen over. to see the pictures of the Atlantic waves that were so full of ice that they were being called slurpies was quite something as well.

    So what makes Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario less frozen? more water flow or current? more wind on the surface?

    That makes sense. Probably takes longer to warm up in the summer as well.

    Pete, that's a great overhead shot of the lakes. Two years in a row now of major ice over on the Great Lakes.

    Here's what Lake Erie looked like from ground level on Sunday... Emma loved it! She's standing on the beach just a few dozen feet from the lake.

    Here's a pic that shows the profile. While Superior is much deeper, it's further north, so gets better ice than Lake Michigan..

    I knew I had seen something like this before. Probably in my high school geography textbook. lol Looking at some of the elevation drops makes you appreciate the engineering to create the lock and canal systems. especially before GPS
