Been looking for a compact or sub compact tractor for a month or so but they seem to sell quicker than I can get there or aren't worth the asking price. I've been through every craigslist ad I can find within 300 miles of Syracuse NY. Also checked local dealer sites, fastline, tractor house, and ebay.

Mostly interested in Kubota BX series with a loader. I would consider other makes and models as long as there is a dealer reasonably close to me for support. Case, John Deere, And New Holland.

My budget is $8k. I know it's on the low side of typical asking prices but I'm still hopeful of finding a good deal.

If anyone comes across one please let me know.

    Thanks.

Most CL tractors are overpriced. They seem to forget factor in the cash discount or 0% financing that the got when they bought it new.

My neighbor looked a long time for a used bx. He finally went to a dealer and bought a used b7510 that was like new with only 30 hours. He paid less then 10.

I'd also be afraid to buy from CL because it's possible the tractor has a lien on it. Not sure how you could be guaranteed it's not stolen or has a lien on it?

Good points. I've asked a few owners if the tractors were financed and if they could produce a lien release. Both said yes.

The stolen part is where it gets tricky.

What do you want to do with the tractor?

My advise as an owner of a BX is to step up to a B minimum or even better an L. An L wont be $8k though.

If moving full pallets of firewood are in your future, a B or BX wont handle it. A B29 for example can only lift about 700 lbs. A BX even less, about 500.

I run an equipment repair business in my shop at home. Mostly golf course equipment under 3000lbs. I need something both strong and small enough to drag dead machines off and on trailers and into the shop. Loader for lifting small machines that are too heavy for me to easily lift myself or with one other person. The 500lb lift of the BX should do almost everything I run into.

Also would like to be able to do snow removal, mow, and run a tiller as well. We only have a little over an acre so the B or L series would be a bit on the large size.

Something like the BX1500 or BX1800 is smallest I'd like to go with.

I will give you advice I learned by on tractors. Go at least 1 or 2 sizes bigger than you think you'll need. You on the right track with Kubota. I have a M 60 40 and like it.

Did you see this one Bret Hart? Short road trip to Hannibal, NY-35ish miles from Syracuse.

I also work a full time job at a resort with many Kubota products. Half a dozen tractors and at least 75 machines with Kubota engines. I'm a big time Kubota fan due to the sheer lack of repairs we need to make on them. Usually just preventive maintenance.

Father in law just trading his bx1500 in for and L series.....I would have bought the bx, but didn't know he was going to jump so quick. He traded that bx for $4500 only had 400 hours and clean no loader though.

Tractor House and Fastline asking prices are all grossly high, I think it is just people/dealers being ready for the haggle over price. But there is no real other way to get a feel for price ranges. Also, be prepared to travel, or have it shipped to you. I'm not a fan of buying sight-un-seen... but kinda the way it is with equipment on the net.

As crzy said... go for a size bigger then you think you need, you will find the tractor limitations quick, especially with a loader on it. I've had harry situations with 150+ hp tractors with a loader on it.

I'm a farm kid... I know green and red tractors... so what HP range are you looking for? Lawn/Garden, Compact, Utility, small farm? Do you need to keep it under a certain weight for hauling?

Both John Deere and CNIH (Case/New Holland) make great tractors, I've ran both in just about every HP range, from lawn mowers to 400 hp+ four wheel drive.

May I also suggest a Skid Loader? can't really mow the yard or till with it, but can be found in good condition, with higher lifting capacities.

Worth a call maybe. You can always try to negotiate. Worst he can say is no. If he has had it a while might have a chance of buying cheaper. That one in Whitehall looks nice.

Looking at the 15 to 25HP tractors mostly for size and weight. Don't really have a need to haul it around yet but I do have a landscape trailer that will handle 2500LBS.

I did find this one that I really like and could add the loader once a few checks roll in.

    Agreed.

I saw one of his ads the other day that said something about prices being firm. Kinda read like he was a bit of a, um, ahh, male rooster. Churched it up for ya.

Plus I think I'd have to pay sales tax there too. Kinda like to skip that part if I can.

For your uses I'd be looking for the upper end of that range.

I don't know anything about them but their is a LS dealer here that advertises On CL. Supposedly LS is the mfr of new holland. He seems to be offering a lot of tractor for the money.

Yup. Depends on what it will cost you in money, time, and possible headaches to transport it.

How about making an offer on this one... less the cost of adding a loader to it later? Couldn't hurt, and as Gas said, the worst they can say is no. Good luck.
