Made a fish chowder this afternoon. I concocted the recipe as I went. Bought some monkfish from the fish monger this morning. Got a bag of potatoes and vege stock at the grocery after that. When it was time to cook I softened some onions in EVO, added some carrot coins and celery along with 4 quarts of stock. Got it boiling and added 4 lb of potato cubes. Splashed in some white wine and cracked in some fresh pepper. Tasted it a while later and my wife said it would be good with some beans so I found a can of white beans and in they went. Then poached the monkfish in the broth and served it. Was it ever good. Got to love it when a batch of make it up as you go comes out so tasty. And I still have about a gallon of it cooling off outside.
More bacon on the smoker. I use the peppered thick cut from the Krogers meat dept. I give some to dad and then we use the rest in recipes if it will last long enough.
Made soup beans and ham with cornbread for dinner. Made the cornbread from scratch like always but threw it in the cast iron pan that had a touch of bacon grease in it. Wow was it good! Look at the crust on the bottom.
Looks good. Corn bread was one of my favorite things to make when I was a kid. I remember my mother having to keep buying corn meal.
A quick home made pizza. Okay, it's really a bought crust from Deli, my home made sauce. Bought cheese and Pepperoni. But I put it together at home!
These large rectangular crust from the Price Chopper deli are so good, and are 2 for $4! It isn't even worth making my own. I cook them right on the rack. Although I do want to make some of my own crust for experience. I also need to make some calzones. I gotta talk to Jon about that sometime.
Why wait? I got mine in February years ago and they cut me a good deal because it was in the rafters collecting dust. Used my tax return to give us a nice gift
Wow, was that at a stove shop or big box type of place? I got mine at a stove shop. Maybe I was the right place to buy on a slow Saterday as there is another stove shop an hour in the other direction that I had stopped weeks before and they wouldn't budge on pricing. Maybe shop around? Also it probably helped that I was somewhat informed on what I wanted and chatted with the owner for quite a while on several subjects. He showed me some of the higher advanced pellet stoves they were selling as well as showing me the different brands of kamado cookers that they had and accessories like the Looftlighter that I still would like to get as he demnstrated that by lighting a pellet stove with it-very cool and easy tool. It wasnt a quick stop and ask for better pricing-gotta schmooze them sometimes.
damm that looks good. I cant wait to get my teeth back in shape (just had one pulled and it needs to heal a bit before tackling ribs again and then implant time-gonna be a long road there) and sink into something like this again
