Any recommendations on a good place to buy a tarp. Looking at 20x12 or bigger if price is right. Looking for a heavy duty tarp. I might go to a couple truck supply places and see about some of their tarps. Im prepping for next years winter got caught with my rear hanging out this year and my wood under snow That won't be happening anymore When this weather breaks im going to go three shades of ape crap crazy and put the hammer down css wood. Might even cut during the summer and I hate doing it then.
I have no firsthand experience, but I've heard good things about the tarps from this place: http://www.ysbw.com/Clear-Heavy-Duty-Plastic-Greenhouse-Tarps-s/104.htm I'll probably order some from them this summer if I can't score any old metal roofing on CL.
Try your local roofing supply store or roofing companies. Rubber roofing aka EPDM works phenomenally on covering stacks, and a lot of times these companies have different lengths leftover.
My neighbor gives me his old ones from his flatbed. Those things are about 500$ and up new for the heavy ones. Maybe try a local trucking company with flats or ebay for used. Here's the ones he gives me.. Very strong stuff..
Sounds stupid but if one was wanting to just cover the tops for seasoning season I wonder how well tar paper would work. Albeit just for the warmer months. I guess you could put fresh layer on in the fall/winter months too Im brainstorming here lol. I still want a tarp or two for winter but it has me thinking about top cover for warm months as well
Hit send too early on the last post..lol.. I used to pull a flat and the higher dollar tarps are absolutely superior..
I have never had good luck with tarps. The wind always catches them and rips them to shreds. I have some old metal roofing that is working really well now. Got it for free for taking apart some old outbuildings for relatives. But your question was where to get tarps, so to that I would suggest Lowe's, Wal-Mart, or TSC if you're looking to get one cheap.
Years ago I was a shipper at a steal plant and our drivers used to give me their tarps I wish I would have kept them now lol
These are the ones I've used: http://t.homedepot.com/p/Sigman-12-ft-x-20-ft-Brown-Silver-Heavy-Duty-Tarp-BSF012020/203217233/ So far they have lasted several seasons without ripping. I only top cover, about a foot down on each side. Then I use rope to tie them to nails that are in the bottom splits on the stack. Never had a problem with wind damage. KaptJaq
I've got a trucking tarp maker close to me and I've been buying my tarps from them, way better than any I can buy off the shelf, plus they make em to order. As for firewood I think I might stop by and se if the have a used one that I can cut up to cover the stacks
I use these. http://www.harborfreight.com/9-ft-6...ective-heavy-duty-silver-tarpaulin-30874.html Fold them in half and cover about a 10 foot stack. When they come off, I survey them for damage and make repairs with duct tape. So far, looks like they will last a while. Got 'em on sale for $10 each.... +1 on the recommendation to stay away from the blue tarps.. As an alternative to old metal roofing, I would think one could scrounge materials for top covering from old above ground pools... Both the liner and sidewalls would make good material. Often times, in my area, you can get these pools for free as people don't have the means to remove them...
I bought a couple of them 6x16 Clear Heavy Duty Greenhouse Tarp ,1 in use , they are heavy duty 14 mils in thickness, weighs 6 ounces per square yard I don't have any pics but Stinny might I have one of the Silver/Heavy Duty ones from HF covering the splitter , 3 years old, these are 9 mil Thickness
Just bought 2 of these myself last fall they seem like they should hold up fairly well, time will tell, and you can't beat the price.
I myself use old bunker silo plastic, most farmers burn it in there burn piles and would love to unload it on someone! Many good things about bunker silo plastic, it's super easy to cut, but hard to rip, it's already uv rated for the hot summer Sun, it's perfect for pushing off snow it just slides off, if it gets a big tear who cares! Just recycle it and get some more! Also it's white on one side black on the other. Just stop at a few farms around your place and someone will get you some or point you in the right direction
If that's what you were referring to, see this thread http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/filled-and-top-covered.6985/#post-166554 I've had one in service since last spring. I'll soon know how well it held up for me.
