Husqvarna 545 opinions wanted

Congrats !! But whats an owners manual ?? Lol

 

Started off asking about a 545, then you go and get a 555. Welcome to CAD, burndatwood!

 

So that's the diagnosis? I was wondering why I was eying the 372xp for such a long time at the dealer. Is there any hope doc?

 

Nope. Best to walk away from the computer and never step foot in a store anymore.

 

That's right! Avoidance is the key here.

 

The 555 I have seems to take longer than a normal saw to warm up. And mine has a hesitation off idle until warm. I dont even had e 2tanks through it though.

 

My 555 drips oil like most other huskies. It doesnt have 2 tanks through out probably and it sits in a truck in a plastic husky saw box. I dont have a stihl that leaks this bad. Even 20 year old ones. All my huskies or husky clones leak!!

 

Mine only has hesitation after very warmed up. hmm

 

Well I was at the saw shop today. The 550XPG & 562XPG were updated with the new computer programs., (4th edition)

FWIW, the 550 had 16 hours and 40 minutes of run time and 562 had over 10 hours. It's hard to guess in your head how much time is on them. However I run other saws too so the amount of time is divied up between them. It's really cold out today and I didn't feel like it but tomorrow I'll go out and cut up the logs by the wood pile and it will allow the computers to recaliberate the run parameters.

Interesting note, the 550 ran 55% of the time at WOT and max speed on last run was 14,028 RPM.

 

Thats cool data to pull. I love e digging g into cars OBD2 data. The newer ones provide much more and allow the common user to see it.

Be cool if the tools for saws were cheap and you were able to see that easily.

Reel crazy I will have to see if my hesitation is all the time or just cold. I am pretty sure its when cold only.

I took her out last weekend and did a few cuts. I got the 18 inch bar and it should do the job. First time using a chainsaw. I loved it.

It's never too late to teach an old dog new tricks.

 

You had never used a chainsaw?

 

I had never handled a chainsaw until I got this one. We used to get cut/split wood delivered when I was a kid, and I just started burning this year after a twenty year break. I may take a game of logging course to get a better grip on the basics. I recognize my lack of knowledge and want to learn more. This site has helped but there's no substitute for hands on experience.

 

555 is likely the best 'new' firewood saw on the market for the quality/price.

I do prefer the ported 346s' & 357s' better than any other saws, new or old. But I have had a 562xp for 3 years and never had any problems at all. Easiest starting saw (hot, warm or cold) I've ever run. Very impressive!

 

Dex I have been wondering since you posted this pic. Whats up with the discolored recoil on the 545 in your pic?

 

I was just trying to figure out how someone burning wood currently it seems has never run a saw. Even most who buy wood use to cut it. Thats all just struck me as strange. Nothing against you. Apparently there are ones that havent..as you have shown me.

Yes a safety course or a trusted, known safe operator would be the beat way to learn tips and safety ways. Nothing beats hands on experience bit there are some good training videos out on youtube. Some safety equipment companies make them and I believe husky and stihl have them posted on youtube as well as well as probably several other private channels that cover outdoor stuff will have safety videos on running saws if you want to stay at home and self teach

 

The 545 does do WAY better. Completely different class of saw!
