found some really nice dead Tamarrack last weekend bout 2-3 cords worth. Only problem is its about 150 yards up the mountain from the road. My little nissan won't yank them out so I'm gonna buck the trees where they lay and roll down the rounds. Not easy as they will go every which way and get caught in the deepest nastiest bushes they can find. Anyone else willing to get there wood this way?
nope I get all mine via craigslist, usually already bucked to 16 to 18", occasionally I need to buck it myself. I have only been burning for about 7 years but have had no problems getting my wood this way. I am currently at least 4 years ahead on my wood supply right now All Doug Fir, Big Leaf Maple, a little Black Locust and a little walnut in my stacks right now
so you sell your excess wood? I forgot to mention all the wood I get off C/L is free, usually a homeowner had a tree taken down and does not want to pay the tree service to take it away, some tree services wont take it away. So the homeowner puts it on C/L. but you got to be quick about it
How about a handle, like an old lawn mower handle... drive a nail, dead center, on both ends of the round... pop the handle over the nails... walk the round down the hill, one at a time... or rig a rack that could handle 4-6 at a time. Hold a heavier rack load back with a rope. Might be better than fishing rounds back out of the bushes... dunno.
Really cool idea I will use that when I get close to the road where there is danger of the rounds going over the road down the other side. Even when split in half ☺

FREE Douglass Fir Tree - for firewood, lumber, ??? (South Hill) First post I found! Heck yes Half the gas 1/20th the work A quarter the time
Yard a pult? Seriously I hear you. That's a lot of wood to hump down the hill. How about a wagon or sled? Load it up, walk behind it to steer it the right direction. Hard to say without seeing the hill and intended or accidental trajectory. A toboggan run would be easier than hauling individual logs. But you'd have to have snow. Knowing the snow issues in the pnw, that may not work now. Craigslist is a crap shoot, but you know that. Around here the only cl scrounges you'll find are pine, and for the same amount of work here, you can get better wood. If I didn't have worked to cut on, I'd place ads looking for wood.

How experienced are you with rigging? Sounds like the perfect area for a high line. Think of a zip line for logs. Either gravity takes them the whole way down or you use the zip line to keep the butts up and pull them down with your truck. Too bad you are not closer. I could get you all the cable you need and more. 500 feet of 3/8 cable is not going to fit in a flat rate box... I burned standing dead tamarack last winter. My wife and I hand hauled on tobbogans through waist deep snow. It sucker but we got through.
