Strato.. Basically the pre Xtorq 372xp is a 2171. The 2172 is a Xtorq 372xp.

    (Thanks Clint ;))

And the non xtorq is the more desirable saw.

    Depends who you ask..

Some say the early models ran better. Some say the Xtorq/Strato saws run better.

Stock xtorq makes a touch more power. Fo porting I prefer the 50mm pre xtorq.

I've heard that the x-torq pulls a long bar better, and has more torque. I've also heard that they use less fuel than the non-Strato saws. As far as porting goes, the Strato can be gutted, and the x-torq carb is supposed to be better, too.

I read a thread on AS where Stumpy built two x-torqs and the one with the Strato gutted was a stronger saw...

    http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/project-stumpbroke-71cc-sweedish-stratos.216078/

If you had a ported 2171 vs. a ported 2172 (strato gutted) from the same builder, I don't have any idea which one would be stronger, but I bet they'd be pretty close.

The other option is to just swap an OE top end onto a brand new 2172...

If you're going to get a 2172 I'll give you a contact closer to you than all of the others.
