This young guy was very lucky. Wrong side of the tree with his notch. Remember where he was when he was cutting at :25... then watch where it splits and falls... unreal. Wonder what his saw looked like cause he didn't have it when he stopped cutting. Maybe pinched... can't see it.

I love how he is so proud that it came down. That could have been ugly if it went bad.

As much as I'm against overreaching government regulations,I really think that there needs to be a mandatory training course before novices can buy and use a chainsaw. There are tests you need to pass before getting a drivers license in every State, plus most have one for hunters under 18 years of age,not to mention firearm safety & other things.

But then again, some people shouldn't be allowed anywhere near chainsaws,or other machinery for that matter.

John Wayne said it best - "You cant fix stupid".

Thistle, that would definitely be an overreaching government regulation!! No need to add more taxes/regulations.

Sad but this sort of thing goes on year after year. Keep that in mind every time you see statistics on how dangerous it is running a chain saw. Or how many injuries or deaths while running a saw. Those who have been trained and especially those who have worked with knowledgeable people tend to get along just fine. I've always thought it a bit silly that so many are afraid of the saw but after watching some of the idiot videos, maybe it is a good thing. But I'd hate to operate something I was afraid of. As for the video above, what can be said...

Looks like it had some lean to the back side of the tree opposite of his notch. I can't believe he didn't at least rope it. Well ya i can believe that after how he cheered when it came down :picard:.

I bet his blade on his saw was sharp

I love those who say that my blade is sharp. Makes it easy finding out if they aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer when they throw those words out

Just found this good video of an after action report on how a tree barber chaired an experienced worker (though not allowed to cut larger trees), who was felling the wrong way... it got him. Pretty good example of the risks...

Wow that was informative!! I never questioned being asked to go get wood "over there" while he felled, now I know why.

Is it just me, or was that 'notch' half the tree?
