Nothing wrong with asking.....I appreciate the fact that you did that.

As for the table, I'd be hammering their customer service department. .....then the Better Business Bureau.

How about a review of the actually product in the reviews forum? An honest review about a product shouldnt be crossing any lines.

They are taking this the 3rd and final one back. They don't seem concerned my wife spoke to the manager and i emailed corporate. I guess enough people buy there stuff that one unhappy customer is a drop of water in the ocean.

As long as the review doesn't say "so-and-so brand of chair is a POS, Yada Yada yada.....". If reviews are kept to the point and honest, I'm fine with that.....

You can name the company but keep it from being a free-for-all......keep it to the facts and don't let the anger of the situation take over......

They make it to the specifications of the American importers which are usually to a price point. The importer tells them I want this table and it has to cost me less that $X. Problem is we buy it so they keep ordering it the same way. There are a lot of old names in quality furniture that have been bought by investment companies. These companies move the manufacturing process off shore, milk the company name for all it is worth, then let the company disappear.

I have purchased some excellent teak furniture made around the pacific rim but I have also seen junk come from the same countries. It is the american company buyers not the manufacturers that set the quality level.

Got the new table finally. It was made in Canada from all North American wood. IIRC beech and oak. Another cool thing was the boxes had the support ducks unlimited logo printed on them. 20150224_131946.jpg

jetjr: sucks you have had so much trouble, wouldn't it be nice to be able to buy something and have it be quality, like someone actually took pride in making it... not just took a pay check!!

Nope... Chinese only want the best for themselves... When I was a meat cutter at the local butcher shop, I asked the owner one day why most all the meats had a ink mark on the fat... he said that is the Chinese culling out what they do not want... They have first pick (when ever they are buying) from all the meat, anything they do not want, there inspectors swipe it with a ink marker for it to go to us, or who ever else... That really torqued me off. The dump the cheapest made junk on us, but demand the best from us.... :hair::headbang::headbang::headbang:

That's a nice looking table, like the rustic look. It will only look better with use and abuse.

We've learned a lot of hard lessons buying furniture over the years. Our last table and chairs lasted over 10 years but had a lot of quality issues along the way and the chairs needed to be repaired a few times. Our current table was given to me by my brother. When I got it, it had ring stains all over the top and was basically a mess. Took it apart, stripped sanded and refinished it. The table top is quarter sawn oak and has a few character marks, but I like that. I put 5 coats of urethane on the top and 3 years later it looks great, even though I abuse the hell out of it. We only use 2 kitchen chairs, both are hard maple. I found them in the garbage. I rebuilt them, stained them and finished them and they're now heavy, rock solid chairs.

When I redid the living room last year, I wanted 2 wedge shaped tables to put next to the recliners. The ones I saw at the furniture store were overpriced junk. I found an unfinished furniture store that sold vietnamese furniture made from para wood. The wood is pieced together butcher block style and I was kind of skeptical as to how good it would look, but after I stained and finished it, it looked great.

There are some things that we'll still buy from furniture stores, but not much. We got fed up with them 5 years ago when we went looking for a bedroom set. Couldn't find a bed that didn't feel like it was going to fall apart when I sat on it. Found an Amish furniture store over in Ohio and ordered an oak bedroom set. Got to choose the stain and finish and it still didn't cost much more than the furniture store would've charged. Even after 5 years the bed doesn't move at all when I sit on it.

Nice furniture can also be found reasonably at antique malls and consignment shops too. My wife's favorite chair cost $38.

Most of our furniture is from unfinished places ,I think it's better quality and I enjoy finishing it the way we want it.

The dining table we got this year was made by the Amish right here in PA, it cost a few bucks more than some of the stuff we were looking at , but it will last forever solid maple and we got to customize it the way we wanted, size , stain , legs , and chair style .

We went with the rustic look for that reason. The shop owner actually tried to sell us a nice but cheaper table. We told him we had 3 kids and he asked are you sure you want to spend that much on a table with 3 little ones. I said well its rustic looking so they can only "add" to it.

Those are some heavy duty chairs, 3 side rungs even. Can't go wrong with ladder back chairs either...pick 2 of them up at once.
We try to stay away from the Amish furniture store unless we need something. It's hard to leave there without ordering something or taking something with you.
Last time we were out there I saw an Elm dining table that was unbelievable. I'd never seen finished elm before and this thing just looked amazing.
The Amish will make something to just about any specifications you want, at a cost of course.
