I don't have many vices and these days I find it hard to part with a dollar unless it's for something uber practical but lately I'd developed a fetish for flashlights. Not the 12 dollar ones from HD or Lowes but thre real ones.

I picked up this 1800 lumen bad boy about two months ago. I didn't pay retail as I got it from Amazon though.

Anyone else have a flashlight fetish?

It's a great unit. I use it all the time. I picked up a charger with two 18650 batteries to go with it.

Well, i wouldn't exactly call it a fetish, but it is a good deal.
In the camping/outdoor section of walmart...flashlights...there is a 9 LED with batteries flashlight for a buck.
Make a good little glove box/tool box/etc flashlight. Comes in different colors.

Since you are the go to guy with the flashlights (and having a fetish). Can you tell me if streamlight is still a popular brand?
I used to have a NiCad rechargable with a Krypton bulb.

I always get streamlight and surefire confused but they're both decent brands and one of them actually does all the lights for the military.

The two brands that I think are more modestly priced but also a very good product are Fenix and Olight.

yeah 4800 lumens is a very, very bright flashlight

by contrast the one I purchased which I linked earlier is only 1800 lumens and it's pretty bright

I'm a fan of LED Lenser's. I've picked up 3 different ones over the years when I find them on closeout. They seem to get a bad rap sometimes over at the candlepowerforum, but mine haven't skipped a beat.

We use steamlights at work since they can be used in a gaseous environment. They hold up well except when dropped from a pole or bucket.

I've started into the Elzetta lights and nothing else compares for a every day light. A good bit tougher than stream light.

It amazes me how many times I go to a single no light job and the person doesn't have a flashlight.

I sense a CPF forum member perhaps?

    Yeah I have a few. But I don't have a problem ;)

I mostly like small single cell lights. Ones that I can carry on me every day and don't even know they are there. Usually all warm/neutral tint.
I really like Zebralights. Best dang form factor, convenient handheld use, headlamp use, clip on, whatever, super compact, single cell, and the best UI I've used. I have a few of their single AA lights - the H52w is my go to EDC and is capable of 280lm with a single AA. I have a few 14500 li-ions for it which punches it up to 500lm For something this small and only 70 grams with battery and headband!

My powerhouse is my Zebralight H600w (mkII) which takes a single 18650 cell and cranks 1,080 lumens (though its small size gets hot fast, so it throttles down based on a temperature sensor and PID controller).

They have programmable levels and that H600 can go as low as .01 lumen. I use the low levels a lot more than the high levels so having lots of choices under 100 lumens is usually more important to me. All last week I used it tearing out my upstairs attic and downstairs laundry room.

I have a couple FourSeven's Quark lights as well. Actually its my only dual cell light and takes 2x AA's. Cool thing about them is they all lego - I can swap the heads, tubes, and tailcaps to make different combos of lights. With 2 different lights and 1 extra body tube I have 12 combinations of lights I can make out of the interchangeable pieces. I actually put up a pic showing this on another forum...

With these two lights and one extra body tube (for a single cell) I can make all these:

Using multiple exposure with my camera to show all the possible combos in one pic. Of course there is really only a couple I was interested in, I just did that for the heck of it.

Oh and I wanted to show a better frame of reference for my two favorites the aforementioned single AA Zebralight (H52w) and its bigger brother the li-ion powered H600w...

    IMG_9123-1000.JPG
Both are palm of the hand small, the H52 is actually narrower than the palm of my hand and cranks out 280l on the worlds most popular battery (though I would never run an alkaline battery in it unless it was an emergency!).

As you can see even the 18650 powered H600w is very small, perhaps about the smallest possible a 1000+lm flashlight can be? They feature built in protection and since they are single cell, you can buy cheaper 18650's (or 14500 for the AA one) that don't have the built in protection circuit.

I just used that H600 all week tearing out plaster and lath walls / ceilings in my attic and laundry room (power is off). Used the headlamp strap. I love headlamps especially when working with your hands, its so convenient. Alternated 2 cells, though one of my Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mAh cells would last through the day with 25% remaining (I used the light mostly on 330lm setting, and working 4-6 hrs each day usually). They are not the cheapest lights around but very good quality and performance.

I have two of these one for my wife and me. I use my me all the time but bought it primarily for work. In ems we run across all kinds of situations where we need a light

I've used mine to find addresses that are poorly marked to warding off dogs and drunks. We can't carry a gun so if need be I can use it to crack a skull
