This might be the geekiest of threads on a mostly testosterone-charged site, but you never know.

So, how about it? Any investors, swing traders, day traders? Stocks, bonds, options, forex  or what have you?

I have some investments... stocks, bonds, foreign currency, etc. No day trading. Good way to go broke doing that.

Odd post for this site though.

I doubt many day traders have time to cut and split....

All index funds here, and all in 401s and Roth.

If I let my emotions make my trading decisions, I get those too :p

I love my AT & T and BP stocks. (5-6% Dividends) works out pretty well.

I farted around with day trading in the old Datek days around 1998/1999. All my efforts, after fees and gains taxes netted me about $80 for a year. Hardly worth the risk. I could make more picking up lawn mowers and weed wackers by people's trash cans, fixing and selling them. :). Not saying money can't be made doing it, but I apparently can't make money doing it. The only thing I made a decent amount on was buying a bunch of Nortel stock after their first big crash in 2001 or 2002. Bought it around 50 cents a share and dumped it when it got back up to $2 or so. I kept some of the stock from that original purchase and it vaporized when they went bankrupt in 2009.

I've got a few investments outside my 401K, but I let a pro handle it for me. I don't know enough about it to try myself.

The easiest way for me to put money in the bank is keep adding to my wood pile.

I agree. Hard to talk about this kind of stuff without it heading south.

I agree. Since '09 I have gained 40%, then lost all that and then some, and now am back up 60% on my original investment in the last 5 months. You can get good at it, but you have to spend months learning and practicing, and the better part of your day trading. Me, I just got lucky.
Odd that you picked up Nortel. Unless it was listed on an American exchange. Good call on that one.

Definitely not my intention. Hopefully just a conversation of people's trading experiences.
