The bottom line is everyone likes different saws. I for one am one to run something no one has. My main logger in my area runs the 390/2188. He bought a 7910 to try out. So we'll see what someone that runs them all day thinks. Every saw has its ups and downs. Where one saw is strong another is weak. Let's all enjoy what we have cause there are a lot of people that do what we do everyday with a 290 stihl and are happy with that. Will we always urge them in them form of a pro saw. Of course for a good reason. But the goal for most of us here is to cut wood to heat our homes for our family.

    I agree.

I will just say that I love my 7900. I also love my 2188 and my 562xp, but I prefer to use my 7900 in most cases. I just wish it would put out more oil so I could run a 32" bar. I guess I'll have to modify the oiler next.

When you decide to do that make it a double. I'll send you a 7910 one to mod. Just do a detailed thread for me. Lol.

Theres a guy on AS who did a thread. He says it'll drain the oil tank long before the fuel tank if he's not careful.

A ported saw might burn enough fuel to fix that problem, though. :D

I been trying to get these 2 local logging crews onto the 7910's..
One crew uses 365xt's. The other crew, 395's... One went cheap, the other went for power.. Both uses to use 372xp's old school. One misses the power, the other misses the $800 price tag..

I ran both saws today. While my 375xp is no slouch it won't keep up with this 7910.

The 7910 are nice if they came with a better oiler and more dealer support I think they could probably get a bigger share of the market. Really I'd rather run a 7900 over a 385/390 myself.

This thread made me interested the 7900/7910.
Your post makes me want to try the ported one millermod just did.
Its tough for me to get to any GTG, especially with my work taking soooooo much of my time.
I think its time to get a new piggy bank and start saving for a millerized 7910. Going to be tough to convince the wife that I need another saw, I pulled out all the stops to grab the 661r.

Getting back to the 7910 .......... I wonder how the air filter is compared to say an 038 Mag ???
Could someone put up some pics of the setup and comment on how it does when cutting all day ?
If I have to send off a saw to keep the numbers from growing, I would rather get rid of one that has a few shortcomings and get one that wont have the same obstacles to overcome

They filter better than a stihl does. The HD filter setup has a filter about like the 661. You can cut all day with it and just tap it out. It does have a prefilter also.

With the pre screen in the cap, the small filter under the low top stays pretty clean.. I actually prefer the low top set up..

The 7910xd set up saw is $50 higher. Xd is dolmars high flow air filter system.

    How come Hedge ?
Does the low top allow you to do more with the saw compared to the high top ?
Is one easier to remove and re-assemble than the other ?

I am looking for as much detailed opinion as I can get, if you don't mind

The low top is cheaper. They don't pack up much faster than a husky. Best thing would be find a 6401 rental saw unless you just buy a new one from millermodsaws.

I am thinking of going the new & ported with the HD air filter setup from millermodsaws ................
Just gathering info and opinions for now, the $50 isn't really a factor in my decision as I would rather run something that lasts longer before having to take apart to clean.
Will be interesting to see if this "formula" for the 7910 gets tweaked even more in the coming weeks.

That's not a bad way to go. I don't know if changing much will gain torque but you can get some more rpms from it and an unlimited coil for easier tuning.

    Less bulk, easier service..
If you use the crap out of em, it makes a difference.. I would only spend the coin on the xd if I planned on using it on a mill..

I can currently run 10 tanks between filter blow out sessions with the standard setup..
Don't know too many folks that run that much in a day..
If you do, the $50 would be well spent..
