Carbon fiber saw

Im sure everyone has seen this but I'll share it for those who live under a rock like myself lol

 

I've never heard of an estimated MSRP on that beast, I'm sure it's absurd... but if Stihl (or our wives) only realized what some saw nuts spend on a saw... They might have a market for it... be it, a small, crazy market.

 

I love to own that saw.

There isn't an msrp, it was just an R&D project.

 

Stihl knows what they would have the MSRP set at, that is why it is not in production.

Big companies would never put all the money in to R&D with out figuring the consumer cost, and likelihood of sales. I've got friends that work R&D for John Deere in the hay and forage division, they have made some incredible equipment, that will never be seen by consumers, cause it can't be made for the optimal price point.

Someone somewhere knows what that would cost retail.

I'll take one anyway! It's only a matter of time, and not much time at that. I have 2 bicycles with carbon fiber frames and one of those has a carbon fiber crank. To me the question is: Why did it take saw makers so long to even come up with the concept? It just seems like a logical next step that could have been taken several years ago.

 

Kinda already knew it's was coming but it did mention fuel injection

Sorry no pics... JD is a stickler on pics... Two years ago they where working on a self propelled big square baler, with a 14 or 16 wheel very rake on the front, for corn stalks.... that was a big mo fo... it looked like a cross between a cotton picker and a self propelled moco. Little birdy told me it's just a matter of time fore a self propelled big round baler, basically a small cotton picker.

Oh and a funny note, for years they lost money on building hay rakes, but the profit margin on the round balers was so high they didn't care. Now they have switched to what I call piece work, everything with a JD badge plate makes them money, or it's re badged and made cheaper.

 

Had a set of Deere rakes once..... Then I bought a good rake.

 

I want this baler.

 

At one point someone said $18k for that concept saw. Crazy money for a chain saw. The chop saws have fuel injection already so it shouldn't be long before the chain saws will get it.

 

I know several guys that have made carbon fiber pieces for motorcycles as one off, or low production runs. It gets less expensive every year, and better to make cf parts, structural and ancillary. Heck, entire car chassis, and suspensions, wheels etc are being made of cf.

If there were some gonzos that make these bike parts in their garages were saw heads, there'd be cf saw pieces like covers out there for us at non insane prices. There may be some for all I know.

 

Yep, but don't buy the first one, I know a lot of guys on the boiler line... they say it takes a while to get used to new production.

 

I could see that in the concept, but on a production line would be less.

 

I'd love to work in the R&D department for someone like Stihl, I think it'd be the ultimate job to design and test things like that! In my past job I did R&D for deodorant and body sprays.....which was OK, but nothing like working with power equipment would be!
