I know what you mean. I felt kinda weird the first time I took a picture of a wood stack. But now it's just a normal part of the process. Cut, buck, split, stack, take picture, repeat.
Somehow I've never quite got a handle on what actually is normal. Seems there are opinions on this subject too, but then opinions are like earholes; everyone seems to have one.
My kids see me taking firewood pictures now and blow me in to my wife! They yell, "Mom..... dad's taking firewood pictures again and is going to post them on Firewood Horders!" Followed closely by... "There's someone wrong with dad!" Darn kids.....
I stopped caring what most folks think about me a long time ago. It's their weakness/envy that they have to "judge" other folks on what they find "enjoyable and/or relaxing"!!! Here's a song that you should take to heart...................do a "search" on the meaning of it, and you'll get it!! Enjoy.
I've pondered this very question myself, while holding a freshly split piece of firewood up to my nose so I could take a big whiff. They all look at me like I'm a little crazy at first, until they find out how warm my house is, and how little I paid to heat it.
Well I got out of work a couple hours early so I could get a little cutting in before dark. Cut into a 20" ash that got hung up in another tree (I'm not sure what kind). I had to cut the other tree, and it was under a lot of pressure from the ash. I cut into it and when I saw the pressure start to release, I stopped cutting and stepped back. I was able to watch this tree barberchair while standing safely back.
Careful getting the rest of that down... It's not out of the woods yet! You'll want to start at the top of the tree, and keep taking weight off of it - everything you can get to at elbow or shoulder height. Then try to fell the rest, or pull it down. At least that's what I think I'd do. [EDIT] Next time, you should probably work on getting the first tree down, first. I think the tree that barber chaired was a cherry.
100% FHC normal and anybody that don't think so can just . . .well, you know. I'm still wondering about the T-shirt thing, though.
Ya got to admit that every hunk of wood in your stack is like a trophy, money in the bank or if nothing else, an un-describable feeling of warmth and comfort on evening's just like this….. feeling all warm and fuzzy while you listen to the wind howling outside! I'm gettin ready to take a nice hot shower after a cold day outside. My water is heated with my "trophy's". If "they" don't understand, too bad for them!
Thankfully, both trees are safely on the ground. There was no way I could cut on the ash the way it was hung up. I knew the second tree was going to barber, so I was extra careful with it. It's hard to tell from the picture, but I actually cut it just above waist height. If you stand to the side, and don't cut too low, it is geometrically impossible for the barber chair to hit you. It will barber well above your head. I fell the ash too slowly by cutting through the holding wood. Got lazy when I should have stopped and grabbed the wedges. Kind of a fitting end to a pretty crappy week. Tomorrow will be better.
Wallpaper and firewood folder. I try to take pictures as I go. Nice to look back to see when a stack was completed. Am I normal?????????
