I have been thinking over the last few weeks what I can do differently next year that I learned from this winter. Let's hear what you learned and maybe this thread can help one another. Here is my list.

1.) Buy more ice melt than what I had on hand.
2.) Clean the shed so the snowblower will be facing out instead of having to back it out into 20" of snow.
3.) Bring more wood up on the screen porch and cover it.
4.) Get a rolling wood tote cart of some sort instead of filling the wood tote bag that nearly blows out my arms.
5.) Buy electric ice melt wires for the roof. (or look like a perv buying pantyhose to put calcium chloride in)
6.) Rake the roof after every snow storm.
7.) Clean the basement wood rack out and fill it. (It has a large woodworking project currently sitting in it)
8.) Build a boot rack for the mudroom to save on space.
9.) Put the button soffit vents in the front of the house that I did not do last year. It will help keep the attic colder.

Let's hear what you have to add.

Right where I want to be.
I'll probably get extra ice melt too
I plan to put about a cord more wood in the shed
Since sealing up leaks into the attic, I've had almost zero icicles, but I need a new roof rake
I plan to show up on your doorstep to have you make me a Calzone or pizza in the outdoor oven   j/k, you can just mail it to me.:D

Insulate the basement walls so I can work comfortably down there. Maybe look at a bigger heater down there too.

Boiler reset to adjust the boiler temp based on outside temp.

No time to make pizza papadave if I keep yappin about what I'm going to do.

Not shortchange myself with the woodshed. I left space between the rows and did not stack as high has I could of. I think I could fit one more row if I'd a stacked tight. Also want to make a bigger carrier instead of just a tractor bucket full at a time. Would like to find something nice looking to keep wood in inside the house. Just keep on:saw::tree::axe:now we need a stacking smiley.

I really need to install a new storm door on one of our exterior doors. I think I could probably save a cord of wood if that door wasn't leaking so bad. :picard:

I have to figure out a better way to heat the camp so I don't have to keep going down there and cleaning the pellet stove. If we were living down there it would be different. That has also been discussed. Not sure what we will do. It has also been discussed to turn the water pump off, which is done each time we leave anyway, then drain the water lines, and don't heat it from Dec. 1 through April 1. We don't make it down there that much when things are really cold. Tough decision though. I don't like what leaving a building cold does to it.:picard:

I want a stove where I can see the fire somewhere in my house. I lost that when I went to the gasification boiler. I can not longer watch a real fire. What kind of wood burner does this?
[IMG] That is going to change by next winter!

    All great ideas fishingpol

We had a really snowy winter last year and I fine tuned some things you mentioned above. What a difference when battling cold snowy months.

What would the pantyhose be useful? The gutters?

Yes, fill em with calcium chloride and lay perpendicular to the gutters to melt channels through ice dams.
