Why are you all so nice !?

I posted in the classifieds looking for a chainsaw.
I was new to the site so I figured that I might pay too much for a saw on it's last legs.
    What I got was -

    1. LOTS of extremely generous offers.
    2. One guy offered me a FREE saw!
    3. Local offers of FREE firewood.
    4. Offers to lend me a saw until I could buy one.

What the heck, don't you all know that people aren't supposed to be nice any more!

I ended up getting a great deal on a 550xp, and took it out for a spin on Saturday. I went with this really old dude that I know (I'm almost 50 and he's a lot older than me... a lot)... He said we were going to cut up a few hedge trees that he fell 2 years ago. I thought, "great, we'll go buck these up and I'll be home in a few hours".

Well, after I topped off my tank SEVEN times ... we were finally done....Limbing and bucking.

"Let's go get the splitter" he says! Oh lord I couldn't even pick up my saw or straighten my arms at this point! He hadn't even broken a sweat. We ended up spitting for 3 more hours and all tolled we were at it the entire day for the most part.
Before I packed up and left he says to me "lets load up our trucks and haul some wood to your place". Now that was never the deal, I was just tagging along to help.

We loaded up his full size truck and my f150 to the point where they were OVER full! He gave me hedge that was split and stacked 2 years ago and sounded like two ball bats knocking together!

    * He DID comment on what a screamer of a saw I had and how it sounded like it ran great!

Now this next part I want to say I want to be crystal clear that I am only pointing this out to reference the over the top generosity of the guy I got the saw from.

At one point I bumped the chain break and I couldn't seem to get it to disengage. I texted the guy that sold me the saw (along with a new chain that was sharpened to cut like a light saber) and asked if he'd ever experienced this. Right off the bat he says "oh crap, I have but I don't use the break so I didn't think about it."
I only contacted him for information, NOT complaining! He stood tall and offered to fix it for free and I said he certainly didn't need to do that and I was so happy with the saw that this was nothing!!

A few hours later I get a message that he had already gotten the part and it was headed to my house!!

I have been on lot's and LOTS of forums over the years but I have never met a bunch of people as honest and helpful as I have here!

    Thanks again for everything!

    * as soon as I can straighten my arms out again.... I'll get out and cut some more wood!

Yep, great bunch of folks here, and more info on more topics then one could imagine... oh and a great sense of humor and humility... no hot heads, or know it alls.

Careful though, there is a bad case of CAD going around in here.:saw:

yea, I sometimes visit an F150 forum and I am amazed at the venom and hatred between truck owners over nothing!!

Here you can "give someone the business" about the color/size of their saw or their stoves, pellets vs wood etc... and it's just good natured ribbing!

This is the first and only forum I'm a part of. Not a lot of b/s around here. Most everyone is like minded. Run what ya got, burn what you have. You don't get a bunch of smart a$$ comments if you ask any question no matter what.

hmmmmm..... Your throwing "free" around a lot in there! I think it's all just a plot to get you hooked in, and then.....

Since coming here to FHC, all I have learned to do is SPEND $$$!! A LOT OF IT!!

    Lets see:
    Expensive log splitter
    Expensive chain saws (plural)
Expensive chain saw parts and add ons
Expensive chain saw fuel and oil
    Expensive soapstone Stove
    Expensive hearth
    Expensive stainless chimney
    Firewood racks, shed, covers...
    A Tractor
    Axe's, Grenades, Wedges
    Hookeroon, Cant Hook
    Log Tongs, Timberjack,
    Peavey....
I actually had to buy a $2500 SHED to house my firewood tools!!!
Yesterday I placed and order to have my Stihl saw ported
    Cast Iron pots and pans
    .....
    ....
    ..

I think there should be a special form attached to my 1040 this year, 1040-F form ("F" for Firewood). I should get some Obama kickback or something, no???

Hehehe... we've all come to expect your sentiments around here Donnie. FHC is like coming home, for firewood nuts with big hearts. BTW, those long straight arms ya got now are handy picking up splits... not so hard on your back...;)

I'm glad you like it here Donnie. I remember you from another place.

The experience you had is reason we started this place, and it seems to resonate loud and clear over and over again. We're glad to have you here and your testimonial is proof that the idea (FHC) works and is a great thing!!

    Great group of folks here.

I've been on numerous forums, from sleds to fish tanks, off road bikes to cars.... I've even been a moderator on a couple sites, and even VP / admin on a local club forum for aquarium fish.

There is no other forum like this anywhere.

Lots of great people, answers to questions, recipes, etc... And I haven't even been to a GTG or met anyone personally yet.

I agree, I used to spend a lot of time on other forums, trapping, bird hunting etc, on some of them a new guy would get bashed for asking the same newby question that had been asked a million times. not here great guys.
