    Nice gift. Congrats.

You have used both. What makes this one better/different from the X27? They look very similar.

The head shape is a little better on these to me. They don't get stuck as easy but if they do they're stuck. The original fiskars SS was a better head than what they sell now.

Looks very similar to the Fiskars. I like the protection they put high on the handle and the arching shape of the lead edge

That looks really well designed, with the metal overstrike collar. Although that hasn't been an issue with the Fiskars yet - it just keeps taking the punishment.

you dont hear to much talk about the orignal super splitters anymore. I have a like new one, doubt I even split a 1/2 cord with it since new.

It works great on some wood, but most the firewood I bring home is elm and it just does not seem to split elm very well.

I found an original super splitter and tend to use it more than anything else now.

The only thing that aggregates me is the hook at the end of the handle where you pinky rests. My hand tends to slip down and that causes my finger to bang on the bottom of the handle so it gets sore after a while.

I'm thinking some old bicycle inner tube or hockey tape is in order.

I have not used mine enough to have any real opinion of it. Probably have not split anything with it in the last 3 years at least. Like I said it splits some wood great, but most of the elm I bring home it will not touch. So it just sits in the closest.

I've got an origional super splitter.
I have used it so much that the orange paint at the bottom of the handle is largely worn off.
    I really like it.

I think the hydro is going to give you problems with that round... o_O Chainsaw time on that one!! :saw:

I've never had a problem with elm, especially dry straight grained stuff like that. It's stringy or twisted grain stuff that I find difficult. A sharp axe can help a lot with the stringy stuff though.

not to derail this thread, but,, why not,

Shawn Curry, made a video for you. That round that the axe was sitting on above, here it is vs the the 28-ton DHT splitter.

It's been cold here so most of this wood is frozen yet (that is the best time I have found to split this stuff) mid summer it's a lot more stringy,, enjoy,

Just for kicks while I was rolling tape I split a few extra rounds. The 2nd round had a big knot in it. My mauls just hang out in the closet, since I bought this splitter :) :) I have yet to find anything it will not split.
