By pushing in, do you mean you got that to the house? I'll bet that would be fun loading that with wood up on that one hill then bringing it to the house! I can just picture it, giving it the gas and half way down a deer steps out in front of you. All joking aside, that should work nicely for hauling wood now.
Yes to your question. The Beech was the last we planned on burning this year of our better hardwood, I'll clear off another stack of Beech we had stacked since 2010, if Mother Nature keeps it cold we'll be covered. I'm not a speed demon so I should have time to react, if the hill you're talking about is the one that runs the length of the Brook, I stay off that in the winter.
Thanks prell, I actually like pushing the wood in with the sled. I'll have extensions for the cargo sled this summer so next winter I can haul more wood in it.
Ya, I figured you wouldn't go up in winter but had to gosh you about it anyway. That would be some kind of ride!
Did you have a GPS tracker on that wood? How did you manage to find it under all the snow? I was surveying some sugar maples I'll be tapping next weekend, and I'm pretty sure I tripped over an entire tree that I didn't know was there!
How many trees do you tap? Two colder winters in a row, I better cut another six cord this spring/summer/fall. The inventory is still good but it's always nice to see every stacking area full.
I had 9 last year and ended up with a gallon of syrup. Wasted a lot of sap though because I didn't have any storage. This year ill have 25 taps, and 100 gal of storage.
It's worth the time you put in, we did it one year but decided until I have more time, we'll hold off from making any syrup.
Thats a pretty slick set up there Zap for doing some hauling in the snow. Reminds me of back when we were kids my uncle had a snowmobile with a caboose to pull behind it. He would haul wood and us in it, Ha ! found a pic of what he had, a Ski Doo Ski Boose.
Very nice, some of those are costly if they're in good shape. I think Quads had one for hauling wood.
