This is from one of the time lapse videos I did last winter. Ben the Cat made a guest ghost appearance several times.

Low of 4 last night so I packed the stove high and tight. Made for a really hot fire and was the first time I've been able to shut the air all the way down and not have the flames die. ST temp topped out at about 750.

With these brutal temperatures, I really wish I would have worked harder to get my Quadra-Fire 4300 done and installed upstairs. The Ideal Steel is really pulling it's weight in the basement. The old Franklin needs refilled every 2 hours. Forget that.

My thin walls aren't dealing so well.... The good news is I can keep it 65-70 in here which is OK if you wear a sweatshirt. I'm off from work today not feeling good. I'm glad I can be here to aid in keeping the house warm.

Yeah, I see a partial face right on the top of the firebox. Looking down at the bottom, right?

Pic of the NZ3000. Real time.

FWIW, that's the same fire that has been going since Thanksgiving....

It was -11° early this AM, sitting at around 10° right now. House never dropped below 76° in the past 36 hours and was high as 84° a while ago. Had to crack the back door open for a spell.

Ashby Ma. 4'F outside temp, 71'F inside temp, 450'STT on the soapstone. Sorry about the grain, it was dark in here, and I don't like paying the electric bill either. (1600ISO F4, 1/6th Tv Canon G12)

That's because your wood has negative moisture content it's been seasoning so long. I'm surprised, the brick hasn't melted.

closet and stove 003.JPG Here is a pic of my itty bitty eldorado by drolet. It is installed in the basement and used on sub-zero days to keep the basement "tempered". It was used in an emergency situation (power loss) once already and has proven its value to 99lbs on that occasion! Now, just how do I go about telling her I want to upgrade to a NC-30......

This is last night's osage fire. Outside temp was -6 at 6:30, stove room was 73, hall thermostat read 69. I turned the furnace on anyway to give the stove some time to burn down the coals. When it's this cold, I'm happy to just be able to wake up to a comfortable house.

Steve, actually that grainy looking picture turned out quite well. Gives it a whole new look. And we don't like paying those bills either but don't like the alternative so much either.
