What is the advantage(s) of the 562xp over a 25 year old 371xp?

I wouldn't have enough experience with Jred to know. They aren't real popular around here but that's not taking anything away from the machine.

That'd be a helluva saw. It probably has spring anti-vibe which is always smooth.

They are strong saws. I've got to use a 2094 a good bit. The 2095 has a decomp which is real nice. The 2094 were starter killers like 2100s and 288s without decomps

Porting an older saw, only makes sense if you want performance of a much newer saw, in a package you are familiar with.

I Stihl have 1 or 2 more that are a "Must" have. I don't need a 90cc saw, otherwise I would have kept my 395xp. But the 261, 550xp, or maybe even the 545 (same saw as 550 but with crank stuffers) I honestly am thinking about the 545 and would like to run the same chain ( 2 new chains) side by side with your 261.

Also. My 036 will hit the bench tomorrow. Putting Cabers in it, maybe grinding a little :), and base gasket delete. If I can sell my 044, I will be porting the 460 or 441? Having a hard time deciding as the 460 is already stronger and lighter.

I guess that is where I am lost in this discussion. I look at the specs and my 20+ yo 71 and 95 look pretty darn good compared to current saws. Am I missing something?

No. But if you want them better? And only spend a little doing it?

No trick questions. Spend $250-$280 and receive a saw with about 20%-25% more power?

The 371 is a classic and does very well stock, but ported, it'san entirely different animal. As with any saw.

Specs never tell the whole story. However, many of the older saws do generate more power because of the choked up mufflers of today. You have husky and jonsereds with spring anti-vibe, so the saws of today won't be much smoother.........unless they are the newer stihls that now have spring anti-vibe.

In sum, I personally would never "upgrade" a 371/2095............ but I'd port the 371.

I agree if your 371 has the spring handle there is not going to be any noticeable difference in it and the modern brand new 372xp or 365.

Did not pay attention to weights but a new one may be a half pound lighter?

Not really. Send the 371 to Tn to one of those guys and when it comes back it will be a whole different animal. Let them split the cases and new bearings and seals while it's there. You'll have 80 cc power in the same package you're used to. When it gets back send the 2095 and you'll have a real strong saw capable of running a 36" easily. The newer 372s are heavier than the 371. If you want to upgrade I'm sure there's plenty of people that would love to have the 371.

Your saws were from the 'golden age' of chainsaws. When manufacturers were worried about power, weight and longevity. Not government mandates.

The focus for newer saws in the last 10 years has been cleaner running, air filtration, and better AV. Your 371 has pretty decent filtration and AV already. Unless fuel consumption is an issue for you, then no, you're not missing much. 90cc saws like your 2095 are just now starting to get some modernization, like the new, yet to be released over here in the NE, Stihl MS661.

If you're sure you want to keep the 371XP, I would send it to a builder/saw spa and enjoy the next 20 years with it. If you are thinking about an upgrade, I would wait until Husky releases their next 70cc saw, hopefully with AutoTune (the mythical 572XP?) and see how you feel then.

Either of these 2 things is logical :)

But if you sell it? Post it here first :emb::D;)

Thanks for clearing this up, I thought there was some big secret here I was missing. So, do we have a favorite builder/saw spa (what is that?) and how do I get a hold of them?

Brad isn't taking work right now. Randy or Terry are the ones I would pick. Randy is a month behind right now and I don't know about Terry.

I thought I remember randy saying on proboards site that brad was not taking saws right now or either only doing like one a month or something?
