Well, we had 10* when I got up and we had a 44mph wind gust with the wind averaging 35 mph. It's sucking the wood hard in the stove, It's not bad when the wind isn't blowing that hard but it really pulls a draft. I had some coals in the bottom, threw some broken pallet wood on there "SHHHHHHHH don't tell Pete"…. And she fired up pretty quick but house was a chilly 58* Couple splits of gum and were cooking.
It's about -18.... I'm burning everything but the couch I'm on and the blanket I'm under,,, Ps it's 72* in the house.
4° & strong winds this morning, and I'm battling coals once again. I did get a bag of pellets to try that trick and it works better than anything I've done before. 67° in the warm room, dont even want to know what the cool rooms are at. Burning some 10-12" mixed cutoffs for a rare NS load in the F400.
-15 out 71 in Beech, white oak and the normal dosage of coal. Sky clear blue. No clouds Sun coming over the hill. Gonna be cuuuoooooolllddddddd all day. Got more snow on the roof than have had in many years. Last weekends thaw made a heavy crust on it. Convinced this is acting like another layer of insulation. The old woodchuck isn't working any harder than normal and wood usage is that of +15 temps. Likin it!
Hard to get a wind picture Still minus 26c and its a blowing wicked right now. Looks like a beauty day outside from inside beside the woodstove.
- 2 at the moment with some wind, I shut the pellet stove off until around 12 or 1 so the wood stove is cranking along with a nice load of beech. The basement was 79 this morning, the living room was 70 and the sleeper was 67.
Well it was -4 with a -21 real feel. Now it's -8 with a real feel of -30. So the weather channel says. I am going to cover from head to toe every inch of me to go out. First after breakfast is down to camp to clean pellet stove and get it fired up again. Then shoveling and moving a little Pine in.
Went down to -10 now,Wind Chill -28°F (-33°C)brought the house up from 64 to 75 in about an hour and 15 minutes, hi today 3. Probably be lucky to get 8 hours of good heat from a load today
Yeah that wind was wicked last night here too. But you have to love living in Canada. -40 with the wind chill and I heard the neighbors heading out to the hot tub at 1:30 this morning
I brought out some ashes this morning, it wasn't that bad but they're saying around 10 this morning the winds will pick up, looks nice out. Did you eat dinner after the movie?
Yes. It was a 2 hour wait at the Texas Roadhouse and a 1 hour 15 minute wait at Olive Garden. Valentines Day. We went to Applebee's and the got us a table in 20 minutes. I even had a tall Yingleung while we waited. My wife told me to wait until dinner. She didn't want to drink one before dinner and look like she couldn't wait to have a beer. Okay. I said you can wait. I'm havin one while we wait. Steak and garlic mashed!
Woke up to 19° F this morning, the high for the day. Dropping to around zero during the day with WNW winds about 25 knots and gusting to 50 knots. Wind chills will be COLD. The last few days were mild, high around 30, lows around 20 so I was burning some douglas fir I got from a neighbor's yard. This morning I went back to 3 year seasoned red & white oak mix. The difference is radical. Heat output is higher, burn time longer, less ash, and coaling is easier to control. Will stay with the oak until the temps moderate again... KaptJaq
It has warmed up to a balmy -13 f but the wind is managing to keep the black flys @ bay. Loon is right, looks good out there from along side the stove. Went out to exercise both vehicles. Believe me when I say it SUCKS outside right now. Everybody stay warm...........................
My coolant is fine, my battery is fine, my car is black with the hood facing due south and the sun is shining brightly. The three together better keep my car alright. I don't have to go anywhere for the next few days, and I'm not going out to warm the car. It's on its own. For an emergency, the block heater plug is accessible, an extension cord is handy, the outdoor power is twenty feet from the car, which is right beside my house all winter. ( Has to live there, or there is no way to plow my road. ) Today is a good day to keep busy indoors and enjoy the weather through the windows.
Truck doesn't have a block heater Sherwood and thinking of going into town to pick up one of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnetic-Engine-Block-Heater-for-Tractors-or-other-Equipment-/111521679223 Would be good for the splitter also I imagine. Was out for 10 minutes rotti and that was enough! Not dressed right though
Neat idea. Is it supposed to stay attached after you unplug or do you remove the whole unit before you drive? I can see it working good for a tractor or hydraulic tank on a splitter but I think it would be a real PIA if you had to attach and remove to your truck daily.
