The snow just keeps coming here by the lake.

Had to take advantage of a brief window between blizzards to dig out this stack and move it up to the porch:

    Stay warm!

Was in Potsdam last weekend and had to drive 100 mi or more in the snow. Anywhere near there? Nice looking stacks BTW. No sign of spring down here either.

Thanks! I'm closer to Buffalo and Niagara Falls. I'm pretty close to the lake here and it's been giving us some extra snow lately.

How well do you like the circular stacks? My wife saw that idea in her gransfors booklet and wants to try them this year.

I had fun building it - I'd do it again. :) Mine is 10' diameter, holds about 3.5 cords. Got 2.5 of black locust on the bottom, and a cord of black cherry on top. :D I think it might be enough "main fuel" for a year, if I mix it right.

Build it big! :D The bigger the diameter, the easier it will be to stack it IMO.

Do you think stacking with a holtz or on pallets provides better drying capability? Does the wood that goes in the middle dry?

Are the lakes close to being frozen?

Always on pallets :) - the holz is up on around 11 of em I think. One thing it's got going for it is air flow - guess we'll see how well it dries in the middle. Probably depends on how well I can get it to shed water. I still need to tinker with the roof a little to get it where I want it. This one had some pretty dry wood to begin with though - a lot of the black locust was long dead, bark falling off, %15-17 stuff. :dennis:

I'm near Ontario - it's one of the deepest lakes and it never completely freezes over. I think Erie's pretty frozen this time of year though. How much snow I get is very much dependent on the temperature of the lake, wind conditions, and a little voodoo. It seems to be feast or famine: sometimes the lake keeps the area just a couple degrees warmer, and we get less now on average than the rest of the area. But this year it's just adding to the snow totals.
