I don't know either, for all I know he might even be the owner. But I asked about a chain, and he asked what saw I have I told him it's a Husqvarna. His next works were "Sorry, but we don't have any chains that fit that". I then said, "well, I know the pitch and gauge of my chain" and he cut me off saying "I don't know what to tell you, I'd love to sell you chain but Stihl chain isn't compatible with other saws".

I have bought parts there for my Stihl trimmer and leaf blower, so they aren't completely inept, but it does make me wonder.

Haha. I would of laughed at him and said my exact words you quoted!!.

I then would bring my saw back by next time I was near and then take the husky into the store pull the chain off and put it side by side with the same stihl chain or install it on one of the same bars on a stihl!!!

Maybe he was thinking the bars are not the same ?? But again you did not ask for a bar!!

The dealer may push 063 chain in .325 3/8? :picard:

That's kind of what I figured, he probably only had premade loops that were either .063 or .058, when I needed .050. But he still cut me off before I told him the gauge I needed.

I figured he had the random gauge that some husky s are. But round here the husky saws are all sold with 3/8 .050

That may be true but there are a lot of Stihl bars out there that are .050 and then that would mean he either does not carry a full line of chains to meet his customers needs or he is just a ? You can call the name.

so I went into my local Stihl dealer today to buy a chain or two and a few other things, I think I need to find a new dealer

I asked for a 25" semi chisel full skip chain, he says no problem they are $37 ( a bit high IMO) but buy 1 get 1 half price,Still above the $1 per inch I was hoping to spend but I agree to it, I reiterated I wanted semi chisel full skip as I cut alot of dirty wood

Also bought a 1.25 gallon no spill (Jill) gas can from him and put a bottle of stihl HP ultra 2 gallon pre mix oil on the counter as well, he says if you are buying a 1.25 gallon can you should just buy the 1 gallon pre mix HP ultra, makes it easy to mix , I told him I would rather have the 2 gallon pre mix as I am not mixing 50 to 1, he about came unglued and asked if i am running Stihl saws, said yes I am but I am mixing 40 to 1. he gave me the riot act about warranty's and such and how it is mandatory to mix 50 to 1 on Stihl products

So I get home and unpack everything and see my chains are full chisel RSF chains and not semi chisel RMF like I wanted, so I drive back to dealer and tell him I wanted Semi chisel RM chain not full chisel RS chain, he says he does not carry RM chain and RS is what I want, I tell him no I want RM as I cut in dirty conditions, he says does not matter. He reluctantly walks to the back of the shop where they keep the spools of chain and looks through it all and finds a partial spool of RMF chain berried in the back, has enough for my 2 chains and a little more. so he makes me 2 chains while rambling on about how no one ever buys this chain, I tell him the Stihl web site recommends this chain for dirty conditions, he has no idea what I am talking about and tells me to "go ahead and try it out and see if you like it" really!!!

Meanwhile the kid at the counter is trying to figure out how to take the 2 chisel chains of my credit card and charge for 2 semi chisel chains, he finally asked the guy making my chain, and he says they are both the same price so we will just exchange them and dont worry about it. tell the guy the semi chisel should be a little cheaper but he wont budge on the issue

this is the same guy/dealer who told me about 7 years ago ( when I did not know chit) that he would not sell me a 20" skip chain to run on my MS290 I had at the time,as skip chains were for pro saws with at least 25" bars

yep from now on I am not using this dealer, going to the dealer in the city a little to the north of me and try him! or Baileys

My logger buddy got 50 chains from logger chain.com about a week ago in the mail. 20" oregon LGX loops were $13.99 each. And the whole order was only $10 to ship. He got two large flat rate boxes packed with chains. He got a good deal.

He told me the local husky saw shop charges $29 for a 20" semi skip loop. I was the one who pointed him to them.

So thanks for those who posted the link.

I get treated right on Stihl chain from my dealer, sometimes I buy chain from Baileys when its on sale. A friend of mine stocks Carlton, and I like their 3/8 stuff ok.

I'm surprised no one has posted Amick's, I just bought 3 loops of 72LGX084G from them, 16.99 per chain, 5.70 for shipping. I've bought all of my chain from them in recent years.

Looks like LoggerChain is 17.95 when you buy 2, so its a minor difference, and their shipping seems a bit less:faint:. Really whichever makes you comfortable. I also bought my DTI FastTach from Amicks at a good price, and other odds and ends. Their shipping is always reasonable, they ship very quickly, and they communicate very well. Just another option. :dex:

The place on M-33 right about Kittle Rd.?
I've gotten a couple there too, but only if I happen to be going downstate or to the feed store.
Otherwise, our local hardware will make a loop for me fairly cheap....Oregon.
