Stove seems to be quite a bit better than the old Kodiak stove.Had a little smell when first lit but not to horrible.Burning 3 year old walnut & oak
Looks like they did a nice job on the install.....I wouldn't run it to hard for the first couple fires. Most say you should do a few break in fires first. Manual even may talk about that. Congrats, I know you were pumped
Nice looking install there Dogwood, the more I see them Buckstoves the more I like them and they seem to do great for everyone that has them. Not to far from you down here on the south side of Atwood Lake, looks like Saturday night and Sunday you can really put it to the test.
2.6. Cubic feet seems to be working well but still going through a learning curve. This is the fifth night with really low temperatures so a good time to learn. With the occasional over burn haven't had to open windows, better than learning when it is in the 30s
I'm really liking the buck stoves, aesthetically wise. They appear to do the heating work well too. I'm trying to see what my options are for an insert to go in my open fireplace.
Congrats on the new stove!!!... You made a fine choice.... Just a few notes. 1. If after 6 months or so it seems like the door isn't closing all the way, check the screw on the back of the latch mechanism and tighten it... After opening and closing when the stove is hot, after a while, it works its way loose.. Haven't come up with a permanent fix yet, but it will likely involve spot welding the screw in place. 2. The blower draws 200 watts. Doesn't matter if you set it for high or low. We leave ours on hight all the time.. Not sure if you have a generator, but we are set up to run ours off of a 750 watt die hard 110v inverter and a car battery if the power goes out.. If 3. When placed in automatic, it seems the blower shuts down prematurely. I know it's supposed to only come on when the stove is HOT but I like to continue to get heat out of the stove when it's cooling down. So we now use one of these to keep the blower going for 6 hours if we're planning to let the fire go out overnight..... That way it's now blowing cold in the morning. 4. I haven't done it yet, but I'm planning to install a flue damper on my stove... I think it may help a little to control the burn. I do have to replace the gasket as the bottom middle part burned and is letting in more air than I want. 5. Best way to clean out under it seem to be a combination of a shop vac and compressed air. Be careful with hot ashes if the blower is running... Scratch that... If you're working with hot ashes, shut the blower off... Ask me how I know that it sucks them up from the bottom of the stove and spits sparks in your face!!!!! On our second winter with ours and it's going strong.. Again, congrats!!!! Don't be afraid to get those secondaries going!!!! Just a note, looks like they made the handle longer... Wonder if they fixed the issue with the screw coming loose.
