1 above this a.m. and the cave is sitting @ 73 after a 9 hour run. Raked up the coals and am doing a burn down. We got about a inch of snow overnight and the radar shows snow moving se out of the area. We are forecast to drop to -20 f tonight with a wc of -36. Tomorrow is supposed to be a high of -4 f and even colder tomorrow night. Somebody better de-ice Cupids wings today......................

When I made coffee this morning it was - 5, the last I looked it was 6 above.

The basement temps are 78, the living room is 69 and the sleeper came in at 67.

Temp has gone down to 4, but I turned off the DV for now. 74 in here, and we'll see how long the house holds that before a reload.
Brought some scraps in from the shop (went out to turn on the furnace for a small project today). Those will either be a short fire, or added as fillers for a bigger fire.
    That looks nasty, loon.
    Everybody stay warm.

Burning up some odds and ends. Getting ready to do a refill of the wood room today or tomorrow. Now that I think about it,,, it will be today so that the pass through on the wood room isn't open for any length of time tomorrow at the forecasted high of -7! :jaw:

Yup, and it will be cold. Same conditions here-snowing, windy, and also below zero temps. Wind chill is -27 now, and will continue till tonight. Parts of the U.P. is closing highways again (along the shoreline) with even snowmobilers getting stranded along the same stretch!
Have to go out in it twice today......

-16 wind chill here now-back to the White Ash and Oak.
My shop is not fully insulated yet (working on it) and you ought to see my Nashua eat large pieces of Oak to heat the shop when its this cold.

Some of the pictures of the conditions out east are scary, when all that snow starts to melt this spring they will have a new problem on their hands.

Most of the impressive snow has fallen within 50mi of the coast, but the upper watershed of the larger rivers are having a relatively normal winter so far. Up here in the hills, the ice on the rivers can cause big problems if they let go too fast and then cause ice dams downstream, and we've got a lot of ice right now. This bridge has had ice damage to its siding before, from an ice dam. (ahh, summer!)

Well, so far, the forecast isn't holding true.
The -21 for tomorrow morning is now -17. We're at -1 with about -30 WC right now. Went out to the shop and had some machinery problems, so I'm back in the house.
Oak, Oak, and more Oak on tap until this cold goes away.

10 day forecast looks fun, even worse with the high winds we'll have today and tomorrow. Could break some records around here for this time of year. After plowing this morning I loaded up the garage with oak and ash. I'm ready for the next two weeks or so. After loading the garage today my stacks are looking pretty beat up, I hope the weather breaks at the end of February or I'll be tapping into more than I planned for this season. :(

I was saying a few weeks ago that I hope the weather would break. It went the wrong way.:hair:
I pulled about a 1/3 cord of "extra" Oak from the field stacks the day before Christmas, and I'm really patting myself on the back for doing it.
However, now that it's actually being used, I wish the weather would just knock it off.:)

I had 4 cords ready to go at the start plus some shorts and uglies(maybe a "face" cord of uglies) Not counting the 1/3 cord plus I have in the garage I have about 1 1/2 cords still in the stacks. So if things go as they've been I'll have about 1 1/2 cords starting March.

Crazy weather, hit 30 deg. at lunch time and now 13 deg. looks like its moving in. We have had about 4+ inches of snow today but the wind gusts have carried it away, bet there are some road snow drifts somewhere the plow truck has been running. Getting ready to fire up the second stove with these winds and temps plunging. I think I use about or close to the same amount of wood with 2 stoves on super low burn vs one being fed heavy and its nice and toasty with both going. Will see how they both like a elm/locust diet tonight, gotta keep that oil stat in the off position. :)
