Got my first trail cam on Thursday and hung it on the path in front of my tree stand. It was only up Thursday night until noon today and here are a few of pictures I got off it so far. Can't wait to see what else I capture on it. Wish I would have had this earlier in the season. Thaqt Doe in the first picture is about 10 yards from my stand and if you look closely in the first and second picture you can count three of them in each photo.
It's cool knowing something is out there isn't it? I had a red fox that was coming up on my cam a couple years ago and actually had him walk by me 4 times sat and watched him try to catch a squirrel.
I have a red fox that is running around on the property so I am hoping to catch a few pics of it. I was actually surprised to see the coons though as I hadn't seen any in at least two years. Hoping I catch a picture of the ten point I have running around.
Wow really cool pictures. I am impressed it takes that nice of a photo at night and its in color too. My cam is the Cabelas brand which I think is a rebadged Moultrie. Which model is your camera?
The cheapest Moultrie that Wallworld had ~$50. It's an actual flash style camera so it does go through some batteries, but I have a 12V sealed lead acid I plan on adapting to the external power plug -yet another project I'm not too big on hanging lots of money on a tree in the woods even if it is on my property. The remote viewing cameras are really cool though...someday maybe
Take an old roasted chicken carcass and put it in your back yard on a trail camera. You may be amazed at what lurks around your house at night.
I love using trail cameras, have acquired a lot of them over the last few years and use them all the time. They really do change how you hunt. Without those I really wouldn't have nearly as good of an idea what deer are on the farms I hunt. They have directly contributed to many of the bucks we have killed over the last few years. Also it has opened a whole new world of excitement for me. Checking cameras and watching how deer move and travel is almost as much fun as hunting, really a great tool for hunting.
Yes!!!! Great thread! My cams crapped out this year ( a WGI and a Stealth) so Im in the market for some new ones! I used the blackflash and an IR cam and I have to say that the old white flash cams are still my favorites. The deer still hear the black flash and Ir cams and stare at them so they aren't all they are cracked up to be IMO. Ive heard good things about the cheap Moultries at Wally World.
That cheap Moultrie is still working, loaded some fresh batteries yesterday - I leave it on a tree all year long
I absolutely love the Covert cameras, I also have some older cheap Primos that I put out where I am worried about people stealing cameras. The coverts take great pictures though and the batteries last forever. They are my favorite camera.
I am going to do this once deer season is over. I'm sure I will get some photos of the fox and coyotes. This is my first one but I can tell it's going to change the way I hunt forever. I am already looking at acquiring another one for a different area. I just got back from a 4 day business trip this evening and will be headed out to collect the memory card tomorrow morning. Hope there is something good on there!
When you get a giant buck on a camera it will make you so excited you wont know what to do. Creates a whole new excitement when you know what is walking around your woods when your not there.
I always laughed at the idea of cameras all over the woods, along with the cost and effort to do that. Finally broke down and bought one. Hung it in the woods and was like a kid on Christmas Eve. Wierd feeling that you are hunting 24/7 while never entering your hunting property.
Awesome looking buck. If I saw that thing I would be shaking so bad there is no way I would hit it lol
Here's the one that we were after this year, biggest deer we have ever gotten on camera. Far bigger than what normally runs on our property. Unfortunately this is the one I hit with my truck. Haven't gotten a picture of him since.
