If I could get teleported out by you guys to help out with snow removal in any way, I would in a heartbeat. I feel bad for you all. Mother nature is putting the smack down on some of you folks.
For me getting the snow off the roof is not a problem. My neighbor has a 20 foot roof rake and my house is a cape (low eaves). The problem is moving the drifts away from the house once the snow is down... I forgot to move the patio furniture, and we have a lot of shrubs and all kinds of other obstacles. I think I'm going to have to do some serious remediation this summer. Might have to put heat tape on the roof areas that damm up. Ive done insulation and venting and it just isn't enough.. the house is too old to ever get tight enough to stop the ice At least getting around inst a problem. I am all smiles driving around the new truck this winter. Snow tires and 4x4 baby!!!
Hey guys you dont have to be snow hogs... I'd be willing to take some of that stuff... Hang in there guys spring is just around the corner....
Got about 6 inches here. Took me 2+ hours to plow out last night with the tractor. and I didn't get the fire hydrant. Could have used the snow blower but Verizon delivered a phone book ( they weren't on the porch or front steps like they usually are) and the newspaper guy didn't drive up to the box so that meant they were in bags under the snow at the bottom of the driveway. Monday paper is usually thin so the snowblower may have spit it out but a phone book would have broke a shear pin. Found the newspaper, I'll find the phone book in June I guess.
^^^^ This is so true. Right now the piles are so bad that a 4 inch storm that would otherwise be a 30 minute cleanup with the blower could take me hours. Before this next one I'm probably going to have to take the blower onto the lawn to start moving drifts away from the house to make room to rake the roof more.
Well this morning I saw the first reports of roof collapses on the news. And now sadly 2 people have been hit and killed by plow trucks. I really hope these next two systems miss us.
I've shoveled a roof that had heat trace installed on the eves - the stuff is a major PITA to not knock off when clearing a roof. I get where you're coming from with wanting to prevent the ice dams but seriously consider installing the heat trace on the inside if the option is available. raybonz may know the code requirements on installing it on a home. I saw some wicked ice dams in some hips valleys last week in Maine - the roofers will be busy come the thaw
